Arrow Any info on why they can't have crayon drawings?

Hey ya'll....I was just wondering if you could shed some light on the topic. Do you know why prisoners aren't allowed to receive crayon work? I got bored and sent my baby a colored picture and I got a mail violation notice for it. I was just wondering if anyone knows why because I couldn't figure it out.

Secondly, do you know if they're allowed to receive colored pencil drawings? I know they can get sharpies, but I was wondering about colored pencils. If anyone knows that would be great.

Thanks again, ya'll.

I am just guessing here, perhaps it has something to do with drugs in the crayon drawings, like perhaps acid? In Kentucky, we are allowed colored pencils, I don't know about crayon drawings, never tried those yet. Oh my, I can just see my husband getting one of those from me, he is the artist in the family not me. But I can see where inmates with kids could certainly be picked up by having a drawing from their kids.

Good luck to you, as the other Poster suggested, I would call the mail room of the specific prison and ask.

I would call the mail room and ask them. I know that I wondered about pictures my kids colored and when I called they said colored pictures from kids were fine. They did make a point to say as long as its clearly from a kid. I know that they dont allow stickers either, but one of my kids school papers had a sticker and they allowed that. So maybe it has to do with kid work verses adults coloring or using stickers.

But I am a kid! At heart! I guess I'll just have to call the mailroom. Thanks for all your help guys!

I have "heard" that the crayon wax can be scrapped off and manufactured into things such as tattoo ink, etc. that's why it is contraband.

That is so strange..i've never heard of no crayon drawings before. i guess you learn something new everyday! my hubby is in IA and my daughter sends him crayon pics all the time. the only thing i haven't tried to send is stuff with glitter on it, who knows if that would go through so i send those to my hubby's mom, xcept for the ones i put on the fridge of course.

That sucks, sorry girlie! If you really still want to do it and just want him to get the general idea, you can always color the pic and then copy it or scan it and send the scanned copy in. It'll still look like a colored pic but won't feel like one or be turned away.

I've sent Jason alot of things that were colored by me before. He is in a ga. prison. I think it all depends on the mood of the people. At one prison Jason wasn't able to recieve a homemade scrapbook i made for him, and when he moved he was able to get it. I don't know. It can be so confusing. Good luck in figuring it all out.
