Default How can I find out how he is doing?

Hi

A close friend was sentenced on 23rd January, which I know is only 2 weeks ago, but neither his Mum or I have heard anything from him. He suffers from depression at the best of times, so we are both obviously worried that we havent heard anything. Are we being overly concerned? Is there any way we can find out how he is without causing him problems? I am so new to all this, so forgive me if I seem naive, because in all this I am, totally.

Thanks

What state is he in? There are links to may state sites. Please let us know and I'm sure that someone can help you. I am also going to move this to another forum where I think you will get more replies.

He is in a military brig in Florida to be transferred to one in South Carolina. I am scared to call as I dont know if you can do this (1) would anyone be able to tell me anything and (2) would it cause him problems. I should have said, I am in the UK but apart from his Mum, I'm the only person who is supporting him. Sorry if I sound a bit dopey about all this, I have so much to learn.

Thanks

I wish I had some info to give you, but I wonder......

Since he apparently is connected to the military...do you have a phone number from the last place he was stationed? His old Comanding officer should have info. They should be able to tell you or his Mom SOMETHING. It should not cause problems if a family member is inquiring.

I hope for the best.....

Default Well he isnt in Florida now

I found a number for the Florida Brig and he isnt there now, seemed like they werent going to help. I called the facility in SC, but they arent allowed to confirm if he is there or not, so will just have to go back to waiting for him to get in touch with his Mum or I..... but thanks for your support anyway, it is so good to know not everyone turns their backs on people.

Default GOOD NEWS !!!!

Well a bit of good news... my friend called his Mum tonight, said not to watch any prison films as it isnt as bad as they make them seem "its like boot camp with TV but no one is shouting orders at you", so I guess a military training comes in useful somehow. I realise he would be making it sound better for his Mum's ears, but it has taken a huge weight off my heart to know he is basically OK. He is going to work on his degree and take other classes too, read 8 books in 14 days. Oh I know it sounds silly to some to be so happy for someone who is inside a prison, but this news...... well it puts my imagination back into normal mode, not warp factor gazillion where it has been for too long.
