Default When They Came For The Jews...

After World War II, a German, Protestant clergyman, named Martin Neimoller, was released from one of the horrendous concentration camps, emaciated and traumatized!

In typical "Blame The Victim" fashion, people asked him how he, a Protestant clergyman, ended up in the Camps with the Jews.

His succinct answer, has been a rallying cry ever since, for anyone who believes in Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. But, he is often misquoted.

This is the original and accurate quote. I know, because I have this on a plaque, hanging on the wall in my dining room.

My son and I have never said "grace" before a meal, but he has read THIS QUOTE, during every meal of his life. Perhaps, that sits well with God, and I am forgiven.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"WHEN THEY CAME FOR THE COMMUNISTS, I DID NOT SPEAK, BECAUSE I WAS NOT A COMMUNIST. WHEN THEY CAME FOR THE JEWS, I DID NOT SPEAK, BECAUSE I WAS NOT A JEW. WHEN THEY CAME FOR THE UNION LEADERS, I DID NOT SPEAK, BECAUSE I WAS NOT A UNION LEADER. WHEN THEY CAME FOR THE CATHOLICS, I DID NOT SPEAK, BECAUSE I WAS NOT A CATHOLIC.
WHEN THEY CAME FOR ME, THERE WAS NO ONE LEFT TO SPEAK"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thank you, Mr. Neimoller! I honour dance you deeply.

All My Love,
Menolly

MEnolly,
This quote is blown up and placed in the first hallway of the museum Yad Vashem. That is the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Israel. When I read this quote for the first time it absorbed me. I must have stood there for 15 minutes reading and re-reading it...over and over. I took a picture of it and have never forgotten how powerful those few words are.
Many people are unaware and MUST remember that not only did 6 million jews perish but also over 2 million others. Those "others" consisted of gypsy's, priests, and orphan children among others who were part of the resistance. Those who did not agree with the "finial solution". Those who not only spoke about it nut those who even contemplated thinking it was wrong.
Should we ever forget that this attrocity happened to all of our people it may happen again.
There are many things that contain the quote I am about to write. I have a pin that says it in Hebrew that I were with my red, pink and blue ribbon pins (AIDS, Cancer) on my work ID.
The pin says:
"NEVER FORGET"
Thank you posting such powerful words.

And homosexuals, and.. and...

Do you know Bella, that they even subjected TWINS to medical experiments to compare if identical twins would die with the same amount of torture?

Don't you worry, Bella.

I NEVER FORGET FALLEN WARRIORS!

Did you hear the latest news in Canada, Bella?

We are opening a "HUMANE" detention camp, near Toronto, to hold indefinitely, SUSPECTED terrorists.

My father worked in one such "HUMANE" detention camp, in Petawawa, Ontario, in World War II.

Oh Bella, sometimes I can only WEEP at the things I know, but daren't speak of...

All My Love,
Menolly

Menolly

That is one of my favorite quotes--thank you for posting it.

At the Holocaust Memorial in Boston near Quincy Market--there is a stone with this quote engraved......

Menolly,
I was just thinking about that....how they used twins for "medical studies"
How they persecuted so many others...homosexuals wore pink stars on their chests just like Jews wore yellow ones. They killed mentally retarted people (including children), those who were physically disabled. Anyone who did not meet the guidlines of Hitler's "pure race".
I am soooo aware that you, Menolly will never forget. Together we will teach others and ensure that no fallen warrior is forgotten! Love ya!

The inronic thing to me is this....Hitler...brown hair and eyes very short etc. Me, blonde hair blue eyes, Scandinavian looking and Jewish...HA! So do I qualify for his so called pure race?

Mazel Tov, Girl!

Race means nothing to me, but in my books you sure qualify as PURELY WONDERFUL!

Since I am a twin, those twin studdies that Germany did, are particularly chilling!

Did you know, Bella, that Charlie Chaplin and Hitler were born 5 days apart, and Hitler grew the little mustache so that he'd resemble Chaplin, and hopefully earn some credibility based on Chaplin's popularity? Pretty insecure, eh???

All My love,
Menolly

Charlie is one of my HEROES! There is nothing I don't know about his life.

Imagine Mr. Chaplin, at 5 foot 3" tall, in 1939, when NO ONE ELSE in the entire western world was gutsy enough to challenge Hitler yet... Charlie made the movie parody of the man called "The Great Dictator!" Everyone was appalled, but in the end, Charlie was absolutely right!

Despite Mr. Chaplin's gift for comedy, he was a very wise and prescient man indeed! Too bad we didn't have another like him right now, to tell the truth about a few other "tin pot dictators"!

All My Love,
Menolly

BELLA, LOVE! I have a gift for you!

This is the final closing speech that Chaplin addressed directly to HITLER and HIS SOLDIERS, in the 1939 movie "The Great Dictator". Get a kleenex first, Bella, before you read it. And try to rent the movie sometime. It is one of my ALL-TIME FAVOURITE movies! And Mr. Chaplin stands very, very tall indeed, for so publicly talking to Hitler when NO ONE ELSE HAS ANY SPINE!

(Bella, since I can't cut and paste... feel free to do so with the speech, RIGHT HERE, if you can. It seems appropos, here.)

All My Love,
Menolly

I have also heard that quote misused by radical groups in order for them to be more 'credible'. Thanks for the information about it.

Bella (and others);

You make sure you go read Charlie's speech now, y'hear? You have to remember that even though Hollywood had been making "talkies" since about 1927, Chaplin still was making silent movies. People were saying "Oh he's only good for slapstick and laughs, and hasn't got a thing to say.

Then came his movie"The Great Dictator", and the world first heard Charlie's voice.

And he was saying things like:

"Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world, millions of despairing men, women and little children, victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people...

The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress: the hate of such men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people, will return to the people...

SOLDIERS! Do not give yourselves to brutes, men who despise you and enslave you, who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel, who drill you, diet you, treat you as cattle, and as cannon fodder.

...You are not cattle. You are MEN! You have the love of humanity in your hearts. You don't hate; only the unloved hate. Only the unloved and the unnatural...

Brutes have risen to power, but they lie. They do not fulfill their promises, and never will. Dictators free themselves, but they enslave the people..."
~~~~~~~~~~
DAMN, BELLA! This speech is appropriate today, on the eve of war once again, as it was in 1939, when Chaplin was ALL ALONE in challenging Hitler!
Do you know Bella, that I have a recording of Charlie SINGING, at the age of EIGHTY!, two songs he wrote (one in 1926, the other in 1935). When I get discouraged, I play these two songs, and listen to this fallen hero of mine, console and encourage me.
It is like listening to a grandpa I never had, sing me a lullaby!
All My Love,
Menolly
Lullaby Number One, from Charlie: (Written in 1928, for his movie "The Circus")
"SWING, LITTLE GIRL"
Swing, little girl,
Swing high to the sky,
And don't ever look
At the ground.
If you're looking
For rainbows,
Look high to the sky,
You'll never
Find rainbows,
If you're looking down.
Life can be dreary.
it's never the same.
Some days, it's sunshine.
And some days, it rains.
So...
Swing, little girl,
Swing high to the sky,
And don't ever look
To the ground.
If you're looking
For rainbows,
Look up to the sky,
AND, NEVER,
No, NEVER,
Look down!!!
Lullaby Number Two, from Charlie: (Written in 1935, for his movie "Modern Times")
SMILE!
Smile,
Though your heart is aching,
Smile,
Even though it's breaking.
When there are clouds,
In the sky,
You'll get by.
If you smile,
Through your tears and sorrows,
SMILE!
And maybe tomorrow,
You'll see the sun come shining through
If you...
Just...
Light up your face with gladness.
Hide every trace of sadness.
Although a tear
May be ever so near.
That's the time,
You must keep on trying.
SMILE!
What's the use in crying
You'll find that life is
Still worthwhile,
If you...
Just...
SMILE!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bella, when's your birthday, girl? I'll send you a copy of these, because I think you understand the MUCH BIGGER PICTURE that I am talking about in this thread...

All My Love,
Menolly!!!
