Default ??? on the Storybook Project

My sister will be spending some time in TDCJ in the near future and I have been doing some research to find out all I can on what is offered to the inmates. Today I found the following website: www.tifa.org (Texas Inmates Families Association). They have a program called the Storybook Project and it is a program that makes it possible for inmates to audiotape themselves reading children’s books, and then the audiotape and a copy of the book is sent to their child by one of the volunteers. I believe this is currently being done at the Eastham Unit but I am not sure what other units.

Has anyone heard about this program or had someone they know participate in it? My sister has a 3 year old living in MN and I would like to find out some more information about this so she can get involved when she reports.

Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated.

Since I am not sure if I am posting this in the right place I am going to post it in the family forum as well.

Thanks Sarah

They did it at the Lane Murray Unit in Gatesville this past winter, my wife read three different times and recorded I think about 5 books, very short stories for her daughter. She was so happy to be able to do that for her daughter. It's one of the bright stars of so many bleak areas in TDCJ for the women. She had to leave her daughter when she was just 2 years old, she is 9 now. The worst part is that she was framed by her step mom for a crime she had nothing to do with. The step mom that raised my wife wouldn't let her raise her own daughter. She is the most devious evil woman that has ever existed on this planet.
