Unique Programs
  • Team Greyhound Adoption of Ohio: Lorain Correctional Institution is working with Team Greyhound Adoption of Ohio, Located in Swanton, Ohio. Offenders provide temporary foster care to retired Greyhounds and work to develop their socialization skills. The dogs are here for up to 90 days, then they are placed for adoption by Team Greyhound. If you are interested in adopting a Greyhound, contact Team Greyhound at (419) 825-3476 or (419) 475-6849.
  • Parole Violator Out Patient Treatment Program: This program is offered as an outpatient treatment program to all inmates returned as parole violators. The program is 4 weeks in length (16) sessions and is geared towards relapse prevention. Upon completion of the program, inmates are eligible for a Continuing Care Group that reinforces the principles learned in the program.
  • Family Orientation Program: The Family Orientation Program was designed to assist and enlist the support of the inmates' family during incarceration. The purpose of the program is to educate family members regarding institutional rules, regulations and policies. A Power Point presentation introduces staff, allows the family to see the Receiving and Discharge areas and other parts of the institution. The orientation has greatly reduced the number of outside call and complaints to the facility because family members are able to refute misinformation given to them by the inmates.
  • Manhood God's Style: This program provides a spiritual reentry component through religious services for the pre-release component. The classes utilize the book by the same title written by Wilbur Conway. Inmates say that the information and inspiration are very important and helpful to them when they are trying to adjust to another phase of their life outside of the institution. Inmates are also provided references for employment and church affiliations.
