The only suggestion is to change your cell phone number to a number local to the prison where your loved one is housed. ALL of the services claiming reduced phone calls are considered call forwarding and are prohibited by the facility. You may get away with it, but the consequences can be bad if you're caught.

There are many options, but most of them are not legit.
Unless you get a prepaid phone with a local number to the prison..

Global Tel Link is a company that contracts with the prison for communication services. It's certainly not a way to reduce your phone costs and for the facilities that use them, it's the only company you can use anyway.

If your facility uses Securus (or some use ATT, I believe), it's the equivalent.

Take it from me.. I tried to get around the expensive calls, my number was restricted 2 times and my man got a warning that another restricted number would result in no contact visits, and no calls for 6 months.

I went and got a prepaid phone and got a local number to his prison.
there is a company pingeonly that claims to be legit, but its a call forwarding, they have work arounds if the line gets restricted (or so they told me) but when I called and spoke to the prison they told me that any service claiming to be accepted by the phone service that is a call forwarding service is a bunch of crap.

Holy cow. I really had no idea there was a fwding service with that name. How shady to use a name so close the service the prison uses!

So just for clarification...

Global Tel Link (GTL) is legit and is a contracted communication monitoring service many facilities use.

GlobalTel is a way to lose your phone privileges and something to avoid.

they are all SO shady.
I hate them all lol
My man is in the US I am in Canada and his facility doesn't allow international calls so I tried a work around, I listened to someone that used a service and basically had 2 restricted numbers within a week.
And at my mans prison they can only add new numbers once a month. THE LONGEST MONTH OF LIFE.
I went and got a US prepaid phone and I just use that now, more expensive BUT no one is risking to get in trouble, and I get to hear his voice.

Each prison, jail, or prison system has their own rules about inmate calls. What is OK in one may be a conduct violation in another, and could risk all phone access. Call forwarding from the number dialed to a phone having a different number is often a violation of the phone rules.

To answer this general question accurately requires specific information from the actual prison/jail.

You can check to see if the prison allows you to have a google voice number. Some prisons allow it, and it allows you to pick your area code, thus you can pick whether you want a local number or not.
