Concurrent means the time runs together at the same time. Consecutive means one after the other.

You said he got 4 gun charges with 5 years. Does that mean he got 5 years total for all 4 or 5 years on each of the 4 gun charges consecutive?

I can't answer your 85% question, sorry.

You have to be more clear. Were there four total charges for the guns and he got 5 years for each of them???

Please clarify.

The way the original post is worded, then he got 5 years for each charge (4 × 5= 20 years consecutively) the one year would be ran at the same time.

Or did they run all the gun charges together for a total of 5 years?

Then your previous statement doesn't make sense. Because if he got the gun charges and they are running consecutive then there are more then one other wise they would say that when he was sentenced. If they told you that all four are running concurrently then it would be five.

You should be able to look him up at some point and see his out date.

It's not clear the way you're wording it. If he has three gun charges with 5 years on each, he's doing 15. If you're saying that all three gun charges add up to 5 years then it sounds like they are being run concurrently, not consecutively.

You need to be more clear on the number of charges, the sentence per charge and what runs concurrently and what runs consecutively.

When he finished up the 1st sentence, at what ever minimum your state allows. Some are 85%, he will then start the one year. Once he goes to state, he will get an out date with all times figured out.

If he is in VA, I would scroll down to that forum to ask those there about how they do time.

Check out rules of state. We don't know if 1yr is felony or misdemeanor.
