It is privately owned, and you can get as many calls as you are willing to pay for. Skip used to call me from here 2...sometimes 3 times every wednesday and sunday!

I would go to the lil box up at the top of this thread and type in MINERAL WELLS. You should see plenty of posts about this place from me and others!

Trulykath, What about the mail? Is it ever slow? I have sent letters that I figured he should've recieved by now(about 6-10 working days ago) and ones sent from him as far back as the 15th & 19th of July and we both have not got them from each other!

I live in N. Dallas and our mail was turned around in a day. He left Mineral Wells nearly a year ago, so things may have changed dramatically. Have you called the mail room or talked to anyone at the unit? I was over there every weekend from May 2003-Sept 2003, and with the phone calls, we weren't writing as much toward the end.....

Check with the unit...let us know what you find out!

Kath,

I called the unit today to "confirm" that he is still there. I asked if there was any reason that he might not be receiving his mail like restrictions, and the lady said that he could send & receive mail. I did not talk to the mailroom; I think it was just the unit number. I am scared that it may cause problems for him, or maybe I am worried about what they may say. Las month I sent two different letters with an inappropriate picture of me (before knowing the new mail rules) He was called in, and he signed acknowledging the two confiscated letters. He told me about me about the rules about pictures and it has not happened again! That was July 17th! We talked every Saturday except this Saturday he did not call. It is Tuesda now, and I still haven't heard a word from him! Am I just paranoid?

I wouldn't worry too much....if you didn't know the rules, they let him and you know, and they shouldn't be stopping his mail because of it. Are you able to visit? Waiting for mail from TDCJ is liking watching the grass grow sometimes; it just doesn't move like we want it to.

Keep us posted,
kath

I called the mail room, she said that there are 2.000 inmates to serve and that takes time. I guess they are just bogged down ....what if they don't have enough people to work the mail as the law says? If they dont have enough people to get the mail to inmates within the amount of time the law allows?

They were always short handed there.....but they aren't going to admit it to anyone, specifically if it means they are violating federal mail laws. Be patient...and let us know when you hear something!

Hey! I just wanted to say Hi. Brad is at CCA Mineral Wells. He hates it, but our mail has always been super super fast. We both usually get our mail within a day.

He calls me every other saturday and we talk for a long time. The phones are great because they can hang up and call right back, it works out good that way. I got a prepaid account from evercom so that the phone costs couldn't catch us off guard. I know many other people seem to have problems with evercom, but I haven't had any problems with them as of yet and Brad has been there since January.

On the weekends that I don't get calls I go visit. Its not a bad drive for me because I live in fort worth it only takes about an hour or so. If you get there really early (I learned this from kath) it doesn't take nearly as long to get a visit, and they also have pretty good vending machines. Brad didn't ever want me to see him in prison whites so when he went to Mineral Wells and he could wear regular clothes it helped him to relax a little.

Anyway, I would love to chat with you sometime. Pm me and we can exchange email addresses or AOL/Yahoo Ids. If you have anymore questions ask away. I will try my best to help you with anything I can, but Trulykath is "truly" the expert on this place.

LOL...not sure on the expert status, but I was over there a while. It got to where I would pull in and they would address me by name, know Skip's name, and could practically quote his TDCJ #!!

Let me know if you have other questions!

Default My husband is there

Hey! Just wanted to let you know that my Hubby is there. He has been there for 1 1/2 years now. Our mail turn around is 2 to 3 days. For some reason we get hit twice on Mondays or Tuesdays and skipped the next day. We write one another everyday.....so we have some experience.
