Welcome to PTO. You will find a lot of information and support here. I wish you well in your upcoming journey. Make the most of your time while you are here before you have to report. It will be a nice place to land for your wife while you are away. This won't last forever. Good luck to you both.

be sure not to confuse the posts written about the prison with those about the minimum security camp, they are totally different. Here is (was) the bop's Inmate Money page that explains how to deposit money to your inmate account.
(the bop just upgraded their web page, LOL, and the Inmate Money instructions now result in a broken link).
You can take money with you when you SS, and it will end up in your account, but the question is when (mine took over 3 weeks). Once you know your inmate number XXXXX-XXX from the inmate locator or your SS letter, you can fund your account through Western Union or by mailing a US Postal MO to the lock box in IA (any other MO will be held for 15 days). One tip, your monthly commissary spending limit, and telephone minutes will refresh on the same day every month. The 5th digit of your inmate # xxxxX-xxx, times 3, plus one, so if your # is 6, you will receive new limits on the 19th of each month.
You will probably not be allowed to bring books with you, or they will be mailed home if you do. Mail rules for the camps are less stringent than those in the FCIs, and most permit you to receive paperback books directly from home. Hardback books will most likely need to be sent by US Mail from a bookseller or publisher. There will also be a "property limit" on the number of books you will be allowed to have.
Be sure to read the Fall 2014 Prison Talk Newsletter. Here is how !
