UTAH Prison & Criminal Justice DiscussionsTopics and conversations dealing with the State of Utah - Department of Corrections, Criminal Justice System, Prisoner & Family Support, Visitation, Mail ,News & Information, etc.
Attorney Keith Hamilton will be the guest speaker for the September 30th meeting of Utah Prisoner Advocate Network. Mr. Hamilton is a defense attorney. He also has served on the Board of Pardons and Parole twice. At one time he held the position of Chairman of BOPP. He is an adjunct professor at BYU's J. Reuben Clark Law School teaching a course on Sentencing. With his wealth of education and experience, Mr. Hamilton is in a unique position to offer us a comprehensive understanding about how the BOPP is structured and how it functions. He also can provide us with knowledge about how sentencing works in Utah. The entire 2 hour meeting will be dedicated to Mr. Hamilton’s presentation.
Then, a second, follow up presentation will be given on October 14, 2013 by Mr. Hamilton to help us learn the steps to take to assist our loved ones in preparing for Board Hearings. The October 14th meeting will only be useful if we attend the September 30th meeting.
In the meeting following these two meetings, we can have an open discussion as a group on what we have learned. Hopefully this will give us a forum to share our own thoughts, feelings and ideas about how to effectively move forward in this area.
Everyone who is interested in learning about this topic is encouraged to attend these meetings!
