Exclamation Questions about Wilkinson Road Jail (VIRCC)

My boyfriend is currently in Wilkinson Road jail. We're unable to speak right now, but I'm feeling concerned. Has anyone been there before? Either as an inmate or a visitor? Trying to get an idea of what it's like for him.
Thanks.

Hi, I have only been there once as a visitor. You've probably been there already as I just noticed this is an old post so if you haven't and want to talk further repost or you can email me direct at lilyk1 at mail dot com

He should be able to call collect. It's provincial and there are visiting hours. You can visit him there just call to make an appt 24 hours in advance. You don't need to be approved.

I actually haven't been there yet. It's been a long and complicated process. I have a few questions about visitation though that I was hoping someone could answer..

OK won't ask because I know all the complications that can arise. You need/should be there 15 minutes early. there are usually visitors in line waiting to sign in and /or waiting on the bench. Bring some id, one with a picture. you cannot bring anything in with you but there are lockers for a quarter for your purse, scarf, coat, etc. to the left as you approach the desk. It is also where the washrooms are. don't wear anything with buttons. tee shirts are good, not fussy on hoodies. if your appointment is 2:30 you will go in at exactly 2:30 and get out and hour later. you are in either private booths or a series of booths, depending on circumstance. with a phone on each side. the women waiting to see their loved ones are friendly and helpful. They showed me to take a wipe and clean the phone, where things were and how to behave.
keep in mind the "inmate" can refuse visitors without notice and as a rule even if they are in segregation they can still have visitors. I'm not sure if you have to be on a list or just sign in when you get there because the police actually brought me the first time and they have different rules.
when you phone to book an visit you can sometimes wait a half hour to talk to someone so don't use a pay as you go cell. If you call the prison and push 0 you get a real person and they may be able to tell you more than what you can read on line. You do go through a scanner like the airport and you have to empty your pockets and take off your shoes. let me know if there is something else you need and I will try to find out. It is a scary process. it is all new for me too.
