Question Good time/earned time

Hello everyone,

My husband asked me to post this. He wants to know if anyone heard about this good time/earned time law in PA? Where he is, everyone is talking about it. Even the CO's. According to him it's going down next year to cut prison cost. Personally I think it's a rumor, but he so excited about it. Thanks in advance.

Not to my knowledge. I know I have learned that there is so many rumors within the system and our loved ones have a tendency to listen to them which is understandable I myself probably would as well but as I said I myself havenot read nor heard of anything. Hope things work out for you both. Keep your head up and stay focused.

Pure bunk. No such measure is even being considered by our legislature.

Thanks for the replies. I kind of thought it wasn't accurate information. I feel kinda bad for my husband though. Got his hopes all up. I guess he thought since the instructors and CO's in the prison said it's true then it was.

I think that rumor circulates about the same time every year. I promise you that if any such policy was even suggested in HBG, we'd know about it instantly.

Of course, it's long overdue and the time seems ripe to try and suggest it again. The Prison Society is sending out feelers.

Lovey: I can state with 100% certainty that there's no such thing coming anytime soon. Even if we did get a measure off the ground in the State House (slightly democrat), it would never pass in the State Sentae (slightly republican) and Corbett would never sign it anyway.

Such a law would require a total re-write of parole law and would open sentences to challenge from DAs who would argue that judges imposed them knowing the individual would serve at least the minimum. The amount of overhaul needed in Title 18 and Title 42 would be staggering. It would also be political suicide for anyone coming up for re-election in two years.

It's sad that inmates (and staff) start these rumors almost every year (around the holidays, no less) and they spread like wildfire.

This is exactly what my husband has been hearing from the CO's and educational staff at the prison. He's hearing it from so many people in authority. I guess he'll find out in 2013 when nothing happens. I feel bad that someone would start a rumor like this.

My fiancé has also told me about this. He's also heard some things about a work release program. It's a shame how these types of things get brought up just to let others down when nothing happens...

Yes, it's a very cruel thing, In fairness to most staff, they buy into the same rumors as the prisoners because they're usually kept in the dark by administration.
