Default Obtaining birth certificate

M'love and I are in the process of trying to get married. We were told that I would need a copy of his birth certificate. His mom doesn't have one, and he doesn't know where his copy ended up. How do I go about trying to obtain a copy of his birth certificate (he was born in Cali)? (Btw, I'm in Kansas). Thanks.

His Mom can go online to the vital records website and request one or you can call the county clerks office where he was born and ask, or use the link I posted below. My girlfriend is going through this process herself and said they get requests from inmates all of the time. Good luck.

I'm from CA and needed my birth certificate to be married. I did it over the phone with county records and it cost $10.00 but I was able to use a credit card. My hubby is from another state and they sent his for $2. LOL

Thank you so much. Yeah, his mom said she would do it, and as much as I know she means it, she has a habit of not always following through with things, and I just don't want to take that chance.

You can do it online with vital check. I just ordered my husbands and I'm out of state. An immediate family member can order it and you will need to get the form notarized. Once they got the firm they over night it to me. You can do it for his mom and take her to get the form notarized and you can email or fax it back that way you know it's done. Also an aunt, uncle, sibling, grandparent or child can request one as well.

Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. His family is all in Cali, and I'm here in KS by myself, so I would not be able to take anyone in his family to get the form notarized. As much as I love his family....they do mean well...they don't always follow through with things they say they will do for him (out of sight, out of mind, type thing). Which is why I was trying to find out if I can do it myself.

He's trying to get Power of Attorney granted to me, in hopes that will give me the authority to get his birth certificate....but, the facility is taking forever getting back to him about what needs to be done for the POA. Sigh.

You can find a general POA online and add in all the extra things in there such as obtaining a BC and anything else you'd like. I had one for my husband but at times some ppl would give me a hard time so I drew up another one and was specific even tho it's all in the POA. All he would have to do is get it notarized.

Also, thru Vitalcheck it cost me $52 for the whole thing. $21.75 from the county and the rest was the mailing and frees.

With the first link I posted you can print the forms and send them to him and he can send them back to you and you can mail it off with the fee. My gf called and asked and apparently they get requests all of the time.
