Not as far as I know. They've been working on it for over three years, and still nothing.

I don't want to be a negative nancy here, but they've been presenting this bill for over twenty years. It never passes.

I hope it does this time. I really do. But don't hang your hat on them doing it.

It has not even been considered. False rumors. Fedcure is working to get someone to sponsor it. Unfortunatly this is going no where really fast. There are always rumors floating around in the prison system.

I wish it would. Recently the house voiced there disapproval of the bop asking for a increase of 7 days a year in goodtime for their fy 2013 budget request. It was taken out of the budget and they told them to basically not ask for that again. Hopefully one day things will change.

I hate to bring bad news but this has been going around for years. The CO's make rumors to mess with the guys. I will fall over if this ever really happens...

What Fox Rider says is true. When I was in COs were a constant source of rumors, especially about increases in good time.

I am new to some of this, but what is 65% exactly? I assume if the judge stated 80% of 3yrs at sentencing, this would make it 65% time served instead?? IDK?

If the judge said 85% he will serve 85% of his sentence.Example: if he got 6 years 8 months he would do 5 years 8 months

Cool

Hello everyone. I am new to this forum and sadly to the system in general. My husband started serving his 55 month sentence last month so I have a long way to go. I've also heard about the 65%, I've signed the Barber Amendment petition, and I've sent letters, faxes and emails to congress, and even the White House. Of course no one has returned my letters but at least I'm trying. I was doing some research online today and came across a new bill introduced yesterday. It is the HR 2656 Public Safety Enhancement Act of 2013. This bill is meant to reduce up to 30 days per each month that a federal prisoner participates in a program. It can be school, vocational training, religious and/or drug rehab. The good time credit would be in addition to the good time already available. The bill sounds promising. It is now waiting to pass through committee and if it gets past that, then off to the senate and then the president. It's still a long way from being enacted but at least it's a real thing. I'm beginning to agree that the "65%" is just a rumor. I can't find current info on that anywhere. Finally, the latest rumor my husband asked about is whether the President signed to decrease 2 points in the sentencing guidelines. But again, I can' t find anything on that either.

I spoke to my husband today and he told me that the mandatory 1/3 has been abolished, he said that it was done July 1st this year, I was like what are you talking about and he stated that he no longer has to serve 1/3 of the 5 years he was given before parole, time, he said that he can get released any day, he said that he knows that the investigative process takes time, but after that they can let him go any time.

sorry for being uninformed. But could anyone explain what the 65% bill means?
I've just received a letter from my pp today,in which he told me that a new bill came out lately. He couldn't tell me more at the time he was writing the letter, but he said it might help him getting out one day.
