My husband is at TRCI and i have been going there for three years. It is not that bad of a place to visit. I have heard that it is one of the safer prisons in Oregon. I do not know if that is true. The visiting room is inside the facility so if you are going to visit for the first time at the med/max side be prepare to go into the facility. Also the medal detector there is very strong and goes off very easily. The guards were starting to come down on the rules the last time I was there so be careful about what you ware and say. They if you bring pictures make sure that there is no nudity. That means little boys or girls will out shirts on. I know that that sounds silly but this lady brought all these pictures in of her grandkids and they could not come in because they did not have shirts on. They can be mailed in. Pretty much anything can be mailed in as long as you stay under ten things in the envelope. Women need to remember not to ware under wire bras. They will make you take it out or go to Wal-Mart.
The minimum side is so different the max side. There is no medal detector at all. It is like they took a office and made it into the visiting room. But be prepared there is one vending machine there sucks for food and drinks. Hope this was helpful. If you have any questions just respond or PM me.

Smile More about TRCI

Other recent info involves the new phone system, through the VAC which basically costs as much if not more than what they were using before, at least in my experience.

Also, (from our experience) it is difficult to get into programs or in to see the doctor. It took my sweetie three months to get in and see a dentist for an exposed nerve on one of his teeth becuase a food item broke his tooth. Fun all around.

They are a very strict camp but I also hear that they are safe. They have no qualms about turning anyone away if they are not dressed correctly or their attitude is poor.

One good thing that I have found is that if you go to visit and want to stay a night or two, the dessert river inn hotel right down the street from the facility has been great for me. They give a discount if you mention you are visiting TRCI, and if you put twenty bucks down the inmate can call your room and each call is four dollars which is taken out of the twenty you put down.

Our experience hasn't been too bad, if you have any other questions, please pm me. The institution is also really easy to find, and I'm even directionally impaired.

Hello All... I would like to disagree about the VAC... issue.. I only get charged 3.95 a call for the full 20 minutes.. when I send a Minimum of 50.00 for the VAC phone cards.. In all reality it is alot better then not getting phone calls at all.. or not seeing your loved one til their release.. Cause some family members of the incarcerated are not able to see their loved one or even get to speak with them. This is an opportunity where it lets one have the freedom to call without any restrictions or the price of the collect call to be burdened by the one who are on the outside... If an opportunity knocks like VAC take it because it is well worth it in the end to be able to say to the incarcerated "I LOVE YOU or Talk to you again soon" Everything is truly worth it if you look at it and think on it long enough....

Hello, My honey is at TRCI and it looks like he will be for a long time. I would love to talk to other people who have loved ones there to know a little more about it. He doesn't tell me much so I will not worry. I am not allowed to visit yet because I have a criminal record along with him. But hopefully I will be able to next year. Any way I thought it would b interesting to hear how other people feel about this prison. Thanks ahead of time for your thoughts!

My husband has been at TRCI for over 6 months now. So he got his tv! That really means alot to him! You have to be on good behavior for 6 months to purchase one. He will be sending away for the tv guide (it's called something else) because it is less expensive when they order it. He also started working recently and I know that helps, too. He sent me an itemized list with all the money I have sent him and wants to start paying for his own stuff as much as he can.

I just got a copy of their monthly neswletter.....he sent it to me last month too. I don't have a scanner, I wonder if there is any other way to copy it for y'all? It's a pretty good newsletter. His main beef was their new mailing or postage cost increase. And their headphones.....all the different ones.....always seem to be breaking. My husband has 2 pair, one is out for repair he was told could be 2 months, he just got a pair back from repair and they aren't fixed! So when he gets his 3rd pair, just an inexpensive one, he can send those back out for repair again! Sheesh!

I have stayed at the Tillicum Inn. It has been fine for me but I might try the Desert River Inn. It's not too much more $$.

And when you visit, try and get a role of quarters ahead of time to bring in with you. I have heard lots of people say the change machine gets broken alot. Don't wear a see through blouse or you will have to wear a cover up like a jacket. No sleeveless tops or tank tops. No denim tops or pants or blue jeans or blue shirts. No clevage! No tummy's can show. No short skirts or shorts. DO wear that bra WITHOUT UNDERWIRES!!! I found several nice ones at Target.....if anyone knows where to find the ones with plastic underwires, please, do tell! I keep extra clothes in my trunk, I have seen others' hassled or turned away from their visit, but I haven't had to change.....yet! If you put your hair up with any metal pins, you will have to take them out! The more prepared you are to get through the metal detectors, the quicker it will be for you and everyone else! Take off your belt, jewelry, watch and shoes.....just put them on the conveyer belt. I even have to take off my glasses and I am legally blind without them. Real gold doesn't set off the metal detector. You will get your hand stamped when you go in. Get there a few minutes early to get your name at the top of the visiting list. They only take 10 visitors at a time. The nicer you are to the guards the nicer they will be to you. There is a nice park just up the street, I like to go in between the am and pm visits. They have picnic tables there.

I will be visiting next weekend!! Hooray!!! I can't wait for that kiss and hug..... and he will have bought a picture coupon, they have to buy them ahead of time, and we will get our picture taken together!!!

My guy sent me the newsletter too. I always stay at the the Desert River Inn. It runs around $59. You have to let them know that you will be visiting the prison or the rate is around $75. The rooms are huge there and come with a little fridge and a microwave. There is a little store right when you come off the highway that has ready made food at really good prices. The food at the hotel is really good but the prices can be high. There is a pool, hot tub, work out room and a lounge with video poker if you feel like trying your luck. At the end of the street is a trail head if you fell like hiking down to the dam. Hope you have a great visit! I'm not going again until next month.

Default Need information on Two Rivers Correctional Institution

With the holidays coming I am not sure if I can send away for clothes and have them shipped to Two Rivers Correctional Institution.
I am new to this and any information that you can provide would be much appreciated, Donny has a year in there.
I wanted to know what I could send him in a way of gifts for his birthday and Christmas and any other holiday. I know that this has to come from the shipper, but I do not want to ask Donny and then maybe get his hopes up and then broken.
By the way there is a nice web site that is for prisoners, called
pamperedprisoners that I think would be nice if everyone could email anyone in their address book and have them send the link.
There are many people in prison that needs someone to talk to, while there are in there for a reason, everyone makes a mistake.
I also have started a web site for Donny, this is soemthing that is great and free, they can send you what everr they want to place on there, you can also print out the web site and they still have control over the way the site looks. It would give anyone the chance to email them, all you would have to do it print the email out as is and send it to them.
The web site is called myspace
Any information for Two Rivers Correctional Institution would be much appreicated.

Hi Chosen2044! I wish I could offer good news regarding sending them packages but alas, the mail they can receive is absolutely ridiculous! Read the mail rules here in the Oregon forum! Basically you can only send them letters, cards, copies of stuff, the only "packages" they can receive are books or magazines~~~~directly from the publisher! Don't put any cologne on the letters or envelopes cuz they will send it back to you stamped CONTRABAND. The best way to "give them something special" is to put $$ on their account and they can purchase things from the canteen.

I spray all my letters with body spray and they never come back. Yep, no packages allowed in Oregon except an approved package of release clothes. You can put money on their trust account, send books, mags plus the usual cards, letters and photos. You can copy puzzles and information off the internet to send but that's about it. I design fancy envelopes and paper to keep the letters interesting.
The basics on Two Rivers is that it is divided up into 100 person pods so while you are in a particular unit, those 100 inmates are all that you will see. Each unit has a small walled yard. There are movie nights with pretty recent movies and special meals on holidays. Visiting, at least for me, has been a pleasant experience. Feel free to pm me if you have any specific questions.

Default Perfume On Letters

Jorge loves it when I put my perfume on his letters and he always receives them. It must depend on who the gaurd is that checks the mail that day and then lets them go thru! Anyway it is too bad we can not send our loved ones care packages. Why is that anyway? I know other states can send them. It is too bad Oregon DOC has to be so hard ass. I wonder what it would take to change Oregon's policies?

It is nice to hear form others with loved ones at TRCI. I hope people keep posting! My honey just started working in the kitchen last week and he says it helps make the time go by a little faster. Where does everyone else's inmates work at TRCI? Bye for now!

My guy is an orderly who serves the meals to the guys in segregation in Unit 1. I'm not sure why no packages in Oregon but I'm sure it has to do with not having enough staff and equipment to thoroughly go through them checking for drugs and other contraband.
