I have stayed at Super 8 and Travelodge. Travelodge is really close to the prison so that was nice. Be sure to let the front desk know that you are visiting an inmate, a lot of them give discounts.

I don't know if Super 8 still gives discounts. When I worked there last year I talked the manager into giving EOCI visitors a flat rate of 35 plus tax. Not too bad.

Rick Coursey takes over as new superintendent at EOCI

By PHIL WRIGHT
The East Oregonian

Rick Coursey will take the helm Monday as the new superintendent of Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution.

He is now the acting superintendent of the men's medium security prison housing nearly 1,600 inmates in Pendleton. He assumed that role Wednesday when Don Mills stepped down to became superintendent at Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla.

During an interview Thursday in his office, Coursey said about 80 percent of his job as the prison's ultimate boss is basic management skills, 10 percent is specific to the industry and the remaining 10 percent is specific to the institution or facility.

Default EOCI...Haunted?

I agree D&S...not the best memories in the world. Do you think EOCI could possibly be haunted?? It was a psychiatric hospital and although he didn't elaborate my guy said some strange things went on there. Now that I think about it....could have just been the CO's though!!

Its been a few years since I've been at EOCI. What I remember most is that they were strict on the dress code and rules of brief hug and kiss. Maybe someone who has been there more recently can provide you with more current information as things always seem to change.

I agree that visiting there is stricter than it used to be. They have a long table on each side of the officer's station. Visitors sit on one side, inmates on the other. Then, they have little table for inmates that have more than one visitor at a time, to sit at. You check in, they give you a key for the lockers, put your stuff in, and wait to be called to go in to visit. Pass through the medal detector, and line up to wait to go in to the visiting room. I agree, the visiting room isn't quite as friendly as at some of the other places, but I still prefer visiting there, as to SRCI, (for me). The parking is quite a walk from the entrance. What I like about it, it is smaller than SRCI, the line isn't as long to get in to visiting, everybody knows the inmate/s that I am calling to find out about, and the collect phone calls from there are affordable. What else would you like to know? Send me a pm with your questions, and I'll try to answer them.

I am not sure where my man is going. EIther Eoci or back to Two River. In Eoci will they let you hold hands like the others? How does the check in work? I know at trci you get there by 7:30 and get a number and they go that way. Here do you just line up a half hour or so before visiting?

Teddybear ga, Just wanted to let you know, in the "Oregon Prison Visitation" section of PTO, there is a thread to sign up for car pooling. Just sign up on it, and you'll get added to the list. Welcome to PTO.
Calderonhyna-- sorry I missed your questions back in November. Yes, at EOCI, you are allowed to hold hands on top of the table. For check in at EOCI, when you get there, you sign in, then may go have a seat in the waiting area. When they are ready to start taking people in, they'll call your inmate's name, and you go check in. You may sign up I think it is 30 minutes early. Visiting is from 8:30 to 11:15am, and 1:00 to 4:00pm. I still recommend you check with the prison before your first visit, as to the times. Every once in awhile, prisons need to change their visiting times for some reason or another. So, if you haven't visited before, or it has been awhile, I suggest checking on that. Also, after morning visiting, you may sign up on your way out, for the afternoon visiting session if you are planning to return for it.
Enjoy your visits.
