It is very sad for all concerned. Of course your friend will be in our thoughts during this sad time.
Thanks, mammastalkin. All this elapsed time has been hard on her because she feels his execution will help bring her closure. When I was home last month she had just learned of Kentucky's temporary stay and was pretty upset about it. We talked about the alternative life w/o parole (essentially death by prision) which I think is a much better alternative for lots of reason for a serial murderer but she doesn't see it that way. As far as praying for his family and friends, I don't think many of his real-life ones care about what happens to him anymore. The parricide, subseqent random killings of innocent people and his bragging about being the $5 million man because of the money spent on his appeals have pretty much lost him family support. He seems to enjoy his celebrity status which further rubs salt in their wounds.
It's hard for me to pray for him, but on the day bin Laden was killed and people were rejoicing a dear cousin reminded me of Ezekial 18:23: “Do you think that I like to see wicked people die? says the Sovereign LORD. Of course not! I want them to turn from their wicked ways and live." That's an excellent starting point for me to pray. Regardless of when or by what means he dies, I pray that he will repent.
