Call conscallhome just google them and it'll give you a website with a number or buy a prepaid cell phone.

Hi sweetamy... I don't have personal experience with Clarinda, so this is just from an internet search. Hopefully someone who knows more will come along soon!

You want a number with one of these prefixes:

Outbound calling from Clarinda, IA
712-303 Clarinda;IA
712-438 Clarinda;IA
712-542 Clarinda;IA
712-850 Clarinda;IA
660-581 South Braddyville;MO
712-582 College Springs;IA
712-589 Braddyville;IA

It looks like US Cellular is the main provider in Clarinda.

There is a Wal-Mart in nearby Shenandoah. You might try calling them to see if any of their pre-paid phones have these prefixes.
Phone: (712) 246-4044

And of course, you can always try calling MagicJack. They have 712 numbers, but I can't see which prefixes. I don't think Vonage has any local numbers for ya. Good luck!

If you go to any Wal-Mart and by a prepaid "track" phone, when you set it up it will ask you what zip code you will be using it most in. type in clarinda zip code and it will give you a local number. thats what I did for ft. dodge and its only 2 dollars YAA! It took about 3 weeks to get the new number approved.

Thanks for this thread and this information. I went to WalMart and got a TracFone for $9.99. I set it up with a local prefix where my son is incarcerated. I then sent a $20 money order to set up the phone account for my son. The number was approved in short order, like a week. He has been calling me ever since for only $2 per call, which can last up to 20 minutes.

I have my main cell phone (Missouri number) that I wear in my left pocket and my Iowa phone (TracFone) that I wear in my right pocket. If my right pocket starts vibrating, my heart leaps for joy and I can talk to my firstborn child once again.

Thanks so much for your help, all of you!

Question Pre-paid Phone for $2 calls

So I went and bought a pre-paid phone through Tracfone with the intention of saving money. But now I realize the Airtime Cards are pretty pricey. My LO told me about Net 10 and their $25 plan for 750 min. But when I called they told me Net 10 does not offer coverage for Clarinda. But my LO tells me he knows of a few people who are using it. Is anyone currently with Net 10 or know of any service that will save us money with these calls. We are currently paying $7 a call which I think it is ridiculous!!

Im in Ohio so prolly not much help but Ive used Net 10 through Kentucky, Pennsylvania and New York! And have not had an issue with them! I hate to tell ya to just try and buy a net 10 phone and program with his prison zip code and see if it programs! But if it doesn't then your out the money! Im using Boost mobile now, they have a shrinking phone plan, I got the $50 plan for unlimited and every 6 months I pay on time they reduce my bill $5 down to $35 a month for unlimited everything!

And tracfone plans are ridiculous!

Hi Missingyou2006... I merged your thread with this one, because I think it may have the information you need. Good luck to you!

I just entered all the zip codes for the towns listed above in the Net10 site... I don't think you can get a local number through them.

Hmm... I wonder if you could "port" your Tracfone number to Net10..? It's worth a shot!

Hey SimplyMe123!!! I appreciate you doing this!!! This is why I always come to PTO when i have a doubt. I see that you also tried it and didnt work. But I was also thinking about cailing and asking about transfering my current Tracfone number to their service. Im hoping that works! If it doesnt, then ill work with the one I already have. Afterall 6 calls is better than 3! Ill let you all know what they tell me.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info Mellyme418! I have AT&T right now but with an Indiana number. Each call is $7 so we have to limit our calls to only a few times a month. I tried Net10 just because of their cheap prices at buying minutes but the zip code I need is not available through them. Tracfone offers 120 minutes for $30!!!! But looks like i can try to transfer my current Tracfone number to Net10 see if that works!!

As far as I know, US Cellular is the only provider in clarinda. I have a 712-303 number, but I believe there is one other prefix available. You can do prepaid or a contract plan.

I don't know if you could use straight talk or verizon prepaid. they both run about $50 a month for unlimited anything and I know with verizon you can request the local number. Straight talk has a cheaper plan but I don't know if it will be able to recieve the prepaid calls. The area code is 712 and the prefix 303. The downside is verizon and straight talk won't actually have any reception at all when you are in Clarinda until you get about 30 miles north of there.

I would agree with us cellular as my LO is in Clarinda. However I do the trac fone from sally world and just used the facility number to link it to my trac phone. I have to warn you that if I have one major expense it is making sure I have minutes for him to call me every nite that he can. I have cut back on other ways of communicating so this is a big chunk of money every week or so. No one ever said that being a prisoners girlfriend is cheap! Yikes!
