One of the infamous "Texas 7" fugitive gang has won a stay from the U.S. Supreme Court one week before his scheduled execution.
Donald Newbury was to die Feb. 1 for his part in the fatal shooting of a Dallas-area police officer. Justice Antonin Scalia granted the reprieve Wednesday.

The article is here. Good to see!

Donald Newbury and another Texas death row inmate won reviews from the nation's high court Monday on claims they had deficient legal help during initial appeals.

Today, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals shot down Newbury's Martinez claim.

I am disappointed, heidio....I have always known that the USA's 5th Circuit Court is (at least in my opinion) a pretty harsh appeals court

Donald has lost his appeal with the 5CA. He could have a new date set at any time.

I'm so furious with this bloody-minded Governor. He creates steadily new victims. I'm so sad for Mr. Newbury and his family and friends. They go through hell.

Very sorry for Donald and his family, I don't understand how this can continue. They need to stop this.

he does not deserve the death penalty but I have to feel no pity for Donald. He was the one with the longest crime record and he had planned with another to killing a Texas Seven member. Donald and Rivas are really anything as angels.

Why do you feel compelled to judge, here on PTO, in this thread? There're other forums where you may condemn somebody unheard, and where you find like-minded persons. In this PTO forum, members should find encouragement and compassion instead of decrial.

Little Mozart, I agree with Willove. I don't think it is appropriate for you to condemn people that you do not even know. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but this is a place for family members to find support. I would appreciate it if you would refrain from talking about George, you obviously have no idea what kind of a person he was.

I would challenge anyone who thinks that all of these men are cold, heartless monsters, to reach out to one of them, just once, and hear their responses. You'll be surprised to find that even the hardest of hearts can be touched by most of these men. Their hearts pump blood just like yours, TheLittleMozart, and they too are capable of kindness and compassion, regardless of the questionable choices they may have made at some point in their lives.

Please remember that PTO is a support site. We are not here to debate a person's crimes or judge their personalities.

I've found throughout the years that the best way to deal with certain people is to ignore them. They aren't worth the energy. That energy you spend on them can be directed elsewhere.

Yes. Donald is still around. He have a pretty big win a couple months ago with his appeals after the Trevino ruling. His case has been sent for review.

Keith has a date set for 14th February 2015, he is waiting to hear about a clemency appeal but it seems unlikely it will be heard. Please keep Keith in your prayers, thankyou.
