Default Do Michigan prisons and/or county jails accept donated books?

Does anyone know if any Michigan prisons or county jails accept donated books? I read a great deal and have dozens of "like new" paperback books. I'd like to donate them to a prison or jail but cannot find any on-line information about how to do so. Thanks.

I doubt it. The books we send to our loved ones have to be new and straight from a national chain so there is little to no chance of tampering with them (unless you work for a national book chain blah blah far fetched blah blah). At our local county jail an inmate can donate a book to the jail library when they are done with it. Not sure if state inmates can donate to the library. My son gives his books away which is not allowed and he has done sanctions many times for passing a book to another inmate.

I would wager a guess no would be the answer. I tried to donate some new playing cards, games, paper, pencil for the visiting room ( of course I knew they had to be new & wrapped ) but was told no thank you ma'am. We have supplies like that for the visiting room. Okee dokee, it would be nice to see them sometime ~ one time over a year ago at Gus/Parr one day new cards & games did appear in the visiting room. But it didn't take them long to get dirty, greasy & smelly !!

Nope! We used to have places that would donate but then someone screwed it up by trying to smuggle in drugs in the binding and that put a halt to it.
