Don't be embarrassed, bop stands for be confused/or backward on purpose. The other problem is that sending an email to the "executive assistant" definitely doesn't mean that they will bother to reply, or that a phone call will even be answered.

Default Soon to be a guest at Sheridan

Just getting started with this whole process ~ we don't have the self-surrender date yet but it will be sometime this summer, and will be at Sheridan. I'd love anything that anyone feels comfortable sharing with us.

Even if the judge recommended Sheridan doesn't mean that the bop will actually send him there. They send new prisoners to prisons that have room for them. He will also have to be rated at the correct custody level for either a medium security, or the minimum security camp.

Thank you for the link. We are on a very steep learning curve. The order for Sheridan came from out of state so just waiting to see what happens next.

It's confusing on purpose. Most lessons are learned the hard way I'm sorry to say. Be sure to ask any questions you have here.

An outside health accreditation company has been contracted to conduct an audit of the medical care at Sheridan prisons. The inmates can complete a survey which is on the electronic bulletin board in their unit. Family members can email in comments (and their names are kept anonymous according to the company) about the medical care of those in Sheridan. Email: info@aaahc.org The sign at the institution states the notice of the audit is to be kept up until July 25th, I believe, so send your comments in soon.

Hello everyone, I’ve been sentenced to 48 month stay at camp Sheridan. Can anyone give me an idea on what to expect? This will be my first time behind bars and I have no idea what it will be like. I’ve heard conflicting things about having a weapon enhancement and getting time off with rdap. Has anyone known someone to get the time off with an enhancement? This was a non violent conspiracy crime.

How much should I go in with $500? Does anyone know about the education programs that are available? What the day to day looks like. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Prison Talk. Here are the crimes the bop considers to be crimes of violence.

and the RDAP program statement.

Default Books

Thank you very much! Does anyone know if you can send books to inmates at Sheridan with Amazon? If so is there a limit of how many per time?

Federal inmates have a limit on the number of books they can possess, but I'm unaware of a limit on the number you can send. I received books from Amazon at a number of different bop prisons, but not Sheridan.

Whenever you send books be sure they will arrive in the US Mail, not UPS or fedex.

Default Sheridan mail shut down

Inmates at the camp haven’t gotten mail for over two weeks now. They claim something hazardous was sent in and they’re “waiting for hazmat”. I’m not buying it. Why hasn’t the postal service looked into this? Oh yeah, it’s all federal government. Somebody robbed the commissary and they cut off commissary for a month. One douchebag CO yells count-count-count! For the bed counts and wakes everybody up every few hours in the middle of the night. If you’re waiting for a book to arrive to your LO at Sheridan, don’t hold your breath. Make sure mail delivery has been restored before sending squat there. If you have somebody there or going there, don’t expect anything from staff. They clearly don’t care about anything. You’re on your own and must rely on other inmates for any useful information. They set up the pill line and glucose counts for 6am. This assures that the diabetics wont get breakfast. Brilliant.

Welcome to Prison Talk and to the federal forum Elaine. Its unfortunate that so much of the bop works (or doesn't work) the same way.

My LO one just informed me that the camp are shutting down email for 90 days. I received a message from the corrilinks admin this morning saying that this federal inmate temporarily does not have access to message. it freaked me out because i thought my husband got in trouble. but an hour later, i received an email from him telling me that the camp is stopping email for 90 days. I don't know what's going on..

Hi all, I was released from Sheridan in May 2006. Successfully completed my supervised release of five years in 2011 and I've never been back in the system.

Anyway I had a question for anybody who has been there recently or in the last few years. When I was there, one thing that I appreciated about Sheridan was there were lots of trees filled with chirping black birds that were wonderful to listen to as they sang and whistled, and dark green grass everywhere.

I was looking at the place on Google maps just now and I was absolutely shocked to see that there seemed to be no grass at all and virtually no trees. It looked like a desert. In fact I recall that one of those large sections of grassy land in between the concrete paths leading to the housing units was repurposed for growing vegetables (which we were served often as part of our dinner) shortly before I left and there's no trace of even that that I can see.

As far as the grass goes I was thinking maybe it's just the time of year where those satellite images were taking by Google when the grass was dry and brown, but that doesn't account for all of the beautiful trees appearing to be gone that I remember. Can anyone tell me what happened?

Interesting. It has been a few months since I was there and will pay more attention the next time I go visit - it is certainly more inviting than some facilities that I have visited. There are still trees around the fishing lake that is close to the facility. I believe the vegetable garden is still in operation - they might have covered the rows to protect from weather. I will try and get back to you next time I visit. I believe there is still a lot of green grass and lots of trees around the property! The only big change that is noticeable to me is the visiting in the medium part is far more structured than it was 6-7 years ago.

Default FCI Sheridan

Oregon has put lots of restrictions on water usage so wondered if that might be a reason for less green grass. My daughter lives in OR and when I was there I could see a huge difference from years past. Even the travel rest areas did not have sinks with running water in some of the bathrooms.

I was wondering if anybody knew if FCI Sheridan still has the RDAP program? I was told that it was taken away but my loved one was sentenced and in the sentencing it mentioned the program he had to do at FCI Sheridan called RDAP.

Welcome to Prison Talk. I hope you get answers from folks who know if FCI Sheridan still has the residential drug abuse program. The A&O handbook on Page 21 says it does, but the most recent copy is from September 2012, so who knows?
https://www.bop.gov/locations/instit...aohandbook.pdf

Here's the bop's list of RDAP Prisons. Sheridan apparently runs two programs from the same facility.

Default Population in Sheridan FCI units?

Can anybody tell me how many inmates are housed in each of Sheridan's units? I understand that there are four units, each with an A and B side. Are they equally sized so all 800 (or however many) inmates are spread out equally between the 4 units? Thanks.
