VERY useful list of reading material. Around 50% of alcoholics meet the criteria for clinical depression (I don't know the percentage for other substances). And there are those who turn to alcohol and other substances as a form of self-medication. Not to mention those who abuse mood-altering substances because of an underlying illness that demolishes inhibitions.

It's a complex puzzle, and despite the number of books you list, not nearly as well addressed by the mental health community as it could be.

thank you for these resorces...im the girlfriend of an inmate, a psych major in college, and one suffers from dual diagnosis.

If anyone has questions about bipolar and any type of addiction, I'd be happy to give you as much assistance as I can from my college major as well as personal experience with bipolar I, Borderline Personality Disorder, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder
