Talking Prison weddings

I hope to marry my love at Christmas. He is the best Christmas present I could get, other than his freedom. He is in Rosharon at the Terrell Unit (Texas). Can anyone tell me what the procedure is at this unit? Does anyone ever get to marry in the chapel? Or will it have to be by proxy? I can't go to see him until early November, but I need to know in the meantime what is required of me. We have contact visits. Does that mean we can stand side-by-side during the ceremony? How do you get a marriage license? So many things I need to know. Help, please. Lillie

Lillie, I only know how to get married by proxy. You go down to the county clerks office and pick up an affadavid (sp) to send him. He fills it out, has it notorized, and sends it back to you. You then take it to the county clerk and get a marriage license. You hve to get married 72 hours after the issue of the liscense up to 30 days from the issue of the liscense. You can choose anyone you want to stand in for him, even your mother, doesn't have to be a man. Getting married in person in prison takes longer. You have to wait on them to set a date. And once again you will be picking up the liscense with the same time restrictions. Please keep us posted. Good luck and god bless.

Not that old. The Chaplain decided we did not need to get married, so our beautifully planned Christmas wedding was cancelled. I am just heart=broken, and rather than go through this again, we will just wait until he is free. Please pray that it will be soon, and neither of us has much time to wait. Lillie

I don't know of any reason. I have written the Warden, but have received no answer, of course, so I really had a blue Christmas. Thanks for caring. Lillie

You're confused? feel of me. I don't know how he can play God, but you must go through him to get married. So I wrote the Warden, but have as of now received no answer. Meanwhile I had a heart attack, so guess it would be better to wait and see. The chaplain is an a--hole. Michael wanted to go through a visiting preacher, but had to go through the chaplain. I thought the Warden was gung=ho for marriage. I just give up, as I haven't the strength to fight it. Hugs to all. Lillie

I am so sorry lillie...you keep strong now you hear...don't let that chaplain get to you this bad that you get sick...hold on and think about your next step, there must be a way to marry your man....there must be...

I just went through the application process. We had to fill out alot of forms and then it had to be "approved". It goes through alot of people and then back to the Chaplain. I guess he has a big say in weather you get approved or not. We were approved for Dec. 28th but it was postponed indeffinently cause of lock down! So Lillie, I know how you felt this Christmas! Keep at them though if you really want it cause you can protest their decision (at least here in CA) and they would have to review your application again! Good luck!!

I guess I mourned myself into a heart attack, for I had one at dawn on Dec. 31st. Now I don't have strength to fight, so
I'll just try to be content to wait until he is free. Please, everybody, pray he gets out soon. He has a writ in the works.
and expects great things from it.
I'm so sorry for your wedding cancellation on the 28th. I hope
you soon will be able to get married. hugs, Lillie
