Default abortion in county jail/prison

My daughter is pregnant and just charged. We can't bail her out. She wants/needs an abortion. (drugs and prescribed meds. for mental illness)

Can anyone show me the way to get things rolling on this?

She has been told that "it ain't gonna happen." I know legally they can't stop it other than refusing to take her where she needs to go....

any help will be appreciated

I'd get her attorney to find out the right way to do this its probably not going to happen unless its medically necessary. There are lots of pregnant women in jails & prisons. Please call as soon as you can if its a PD see if they can get an emergency hearing to get her out on pretrial release even an ankle monitor then she can do what she needs to. Most judges will go for that rather then keep a woman in jail who wants to terminate her pregnancy, especially with a drug history & mental illness.

The federal courts have ruled jail officials must provide transportation for female inmates seeking abortion. See, http://edition.cnn.com/2008/US/01/22...des/index.html

If she has private medical insurance or ability to pay the costs out of pocket, there should be no problem. Medicaid coverage is not an option for her. In Florida, it will pay for abortions to save the life of the woman or in cases of rape or incest, but it will not pay for abortions that women with diabetes, cancer, epilepsy, or other medical afflictions may need for health reasons. (See, article at http://www.sptimes.com/2002/08/28/St...icaid_ab.shtml).
That policy is yet employed in Florida as of 1/10/2011. (See, http://www.guttmacher.org/statecente.../spib_SFAM.pdf).
