One of the articles recently posted in News and Events about reducing gaintime for non-violent offenders. It referrenced a page number in the PDF if you want a list of the non-violent and violent crimes. Since we have members with questions about what is considered to be non-violent and violent I thought this would be beneficial.

Robbery shouldn't be considered a violent crime. I am surprised it is.

Yeah well my husband is also classified as a violent offender for A TRAFFIC OFFENSE because there were injuries (DUI Serious Injury). That list is ridiculous.

Default violent crime?? please please help

My husband is in the Mississippi DOC and im trying to see if any of his charges are considered violent. His 1st charge was asseccory after the fact to manslaughter and he was convicted in 2001 and already served that time. I was told that was considered non violent. He is presently in Rankin County and has been in custody since January 2011, serving 2 charges, possession of marijuana with intent and convicted felon with a firearm. I know that the possession charge is non-violent bt what about the convicted felon with firearm?? i am so confused. i can not get any answers from anyone at MDOC. Can u please, please help.??

A suggestion for you while you wait for someone who knows what they are talking about
