Smile scriptures that encourage you.

While i love my man very dearly, this has not been an easy journey for me.working through my own issues plus praying daily, sometimes very earnestly whether i am doing the right thing by loving a man in prison.one chapter of the bible got me through.almost on a daily basis. It was very comforting to me.and that is Isaiah chapter 61.not only was it an encouragement to me and it gave me a deep peace that i was and am doing the right thing, some of the promises in that chapter are so beautiful they've made me cry.more than once i've prayed to God to speak to me through scripture and time and time again i opened my bible and lo and behold there was Isaiah 61.no bookmark no nothing, and i can't help but believe that was God himself speaking to me through his word as i prayed so earnestly for him to do.As marc and i enter a new chapter of our lives i have no doubt this chapter will continue to encourage me and get me through the hard days.anyone else have certain scriptures that encourage them as they are traveling this journey??If so,please share!!

There is a short version that is still very beautiful but slightly less complex. I wanted to post that here too in my last thread reply. My computer crashed first though I wanted to do that because I know some prisons get a bit nervous about the word escape in any context, even maybe in a biblical context like this, not sure. I have heard people say that. The short version leaves that line out for those who prefer to err with caution.

When CPS took my daughter, I didn't want to live...I came home from Court and laid on the couch and couldn't move. Couldn't breathe. I was consumed by a pain that was eating me alive.

The only thing that could bring me comfort was scripture. I begged God to help me. I promise you, this is true. I turned to Psalm 35. It took me awhile to read past verse 17 because I was crying too hard to read.

God brought my family through that time....One day the people involved will pay for their part in the terrible trauma they put my daughter through.

God is still teaching me how to forgive.

Isaiah 43:19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland.

There is so much scripture I would like to quote, but that is not my strong suit. I have to say, I get a lot of inspiration from the stories in the Bible and not just certain scriptures. I seem to find inspiration everywhere in the Bible. Job gave me a lot of inspiration when Los was first locked up. Lately, I've studied Ruth and Esther. They both inspired me to know that God places us where he does for a reason. Being humble and serving the Lord with your heart will have great rewards.

Default It's not about my plans

I get frustrated at times regarding where I should be at this point in my life (comparing oneself to others around you type behavior). Well one day during one of these "moments", I grabbed my Bible and flipped it open and this verse was there. Ever since, it's popped up every where (email devotionals, study groups), I think it's some constant reminder to be patient

Jeremiah 29:11

" For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

I also read somewhere that this is the complementary verse for it:

Proverbs 16:9 (I found it framed in a store and it sits on my computer desk)

"A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his paths."

"Let the man of means spend according to his means: and the man whose resources are restricted, let him spend according to what Allah has given him. Allah puts no burden on any person beyond what he has given him. After a difficulty, Allah will soon grant relief." (Qur'an 65:7)

"So, verily, with every difficulty, there is relief: Verily with every difficulty there is relief." (Qur'an 94:5-6)

"Our Lord! Make of us Muslims bowing to Thy (Will) and of our progeny a people Muslim bowing to Thy (Will) and show us our places for the celebration of (due) rites; and turn unto us (in Mercy); for Thou art the Oft-Returning Most-Merciful." (Qur'an 2:128)

"And your God is one God; there is no god but He Most Gracious, Most Merciful." (Qur'an 2:163)

"Those who believe (in the Qur'an) and those who follow the Jewish (Scriptures) and the Christians and the Sabians, any who believe in Allah and the Last Day and work righteousness, shall have their reward with their Lord; on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve." (Qur'an 2:62)

"O ye who believe! Persevere in patience and constancy: vie in such perseverance; strengthen each other; and fear Allah; that ye may prosper." (Qur'an 3:200)

"O ye who believe! stand out firmly for Alalh, as witnesses to fair dealing, and let not the hatred of others to you make you swerve to wrong and depart from justice. Be just: that is next to Piety: and fear Allah for Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do." (Qur'an 5:8)

Here's mine that have helped get me through a year of seperation, divorce proceedings, and forgiveness.

Psalm 138:7 "Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me;
You will stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will save me."
Psalm 32:7 "You are my hiding place; You shal preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance."
And Psalm 143. I can't take credit for suggesting this one. Someone suggested it to me, and it fit.

its hard to choose hey.. one of my favourite is the beautitudes. it fills me with love & awe ...and gives me strength when things dont seem to be going my way here on earth.. it keeps my mind on heaven .THE EIGHT BEATITUDES OF JESUS

"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

One day when feeling sad, tired, and lonely, Proverbs 23:18 came across so very clearly.

"For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off."

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; - Isaiah 61:1

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised. - Luke 4:18

But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children. - Isaiah 49:25

Now hear me therefore, and deliver the captives again, which ye have taken captive of your brethren: for the fierce wrath of the LORD is upon you. - 2 Chronicles 28:11

I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. Isaiah 42:6-7

for me the Book of John just gets to me, I feel every word especially the first verses.

John 1
The Word Became Flesh
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning.

3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood[a] it.

6There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. 7He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.[b]

10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13children born not of natural descent,[c] nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only,[d] who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

I also really like Hebrews chap 13.Esp verse 20.Verse 20,when i read that verse i always become emotional.I guess i like hearing the Lord Jesus being referred to as"that great shepherd of the sheep..."To me that's a very powerful title.one he most definitely deserves.

I thanked everyone because I love the fact that even though we might argue and disagree, we all find a sense of purpose and a calm with our form of worship. Thank you for sharing.

I have stated in other posts that me and mine do a sort of bible study through our letters. There was a time when mine was afraid of losing me. I sent him Ruth 1:16-17...."but Ruth replied, 'don't ask me to leave you and turn back. I will go wherever you go and live wherever you live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God, I will die where you die and will be buried there. May the Lord punish me severely if I allow anything but death to separate us' "
