Default Why was my letter returned?

I recently sent a letter to an inmate at Rikers and it was returned to me. The address was blacked out with a sticker over it that said "return to sender". "3U" was written on the front. It was unopened. I sent a letter the week before with the same address and he received it within days. Why was this one returned?

More than likely it was a mailroom error. I'd try sending it again.

It is possible that this inmate could be receiving large amounts of mail all of a sudden, and I'm wondering if it was returned due to this fact. If someone starts receiving a lot of mail can the mail room arbitrarily start sending some letters back?

Here in CT. If they send back mail they send a form back with it telling why. Send it back. last week my husband only got one of the letters i sent. the mailroom hasn't returned anything if this happens again i will take the mail to the post office instead of putting it in the mailbox. Best wishes to you.
