Sorry but I got none information on Tomoka... I'm also searching informations on this institution... If somebody who's his love one in Tomoka could help us ??? Thanks a lot !
My friend is in the Tomoka work camp, and also spent some time in Tomoka CI. He is not crazy about either place, especially the Tomoka CI. Although he said it was better than Liberty CI. I only recently started speaking to him again after a years long hiatus, so we haven't discussed it that much!! The main thing that he really doesn't care for about Tomoka work camp is that he didn't realize until he got there that there are a lot of psychiatric patients there, also, he is under the impression that about half of the guys there have HIV/AIDS, which makes him nervous. I don't know if he was exaggerating or not, we only spoke about it very briefly. Hope this helps, and let me know what else you find out because I am curious about this stuff too!
Thank you for those information Norah ! It's better than nothing !
Well, I'm following to try to get information and I could share them here if I can find others...

My fiance is also trying to get to Tomoka as well. It is a faith based prison. (Also it's closer to me) They have what is called "KAIROS" which you can read about what they do at their web site.
As for the inmates with either HIV or AIDS here is some info as to that as well.
Linking Inmates Needing Care (LINC)
Funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the LINC program was implemented in February 2000 to counsel and test inmates for HIV and help them plan for their release into their communities. The jail program is located in Jacksonville; the prison program is located at the Central Florida Reception Center in Orland and also serves seven satellite correctional institutions (CI) (Lake, Brevard, Hernando, Lowell, "TOMOKA", Zephyrhills and Kissimmee Work Release). LINC offers HIV testing and pre-release planning at the prison; the jail offers the same services but also tests for hepatitis, STDs, and TB. Inmates testing positive may receive prevention education while incarcerated and in-house case managers help them create a release plan outlining perceived needs. In jail and prison pre-release planners provide a connection, usually an appointment, with an agency or agencies prior to release and follow up to ensure that the releasee is still receiving support services. There have been 479 individuals in jail and 191 individuals in prison enrolled in the program since its inception. CDC and HRSA funding for the LINC program will end on September 29, 2004. The Jacksonville Jail program will be sustained through a variety of local funding sources, including contributions from the jail.
Gadsden Correctional Institution (GCI)
The GCI Program, which was funded out of CDC Prevention funds, offered a less intense version of LINC. Gadsden Correctional Institution is an all-women facility with an average length of stay of two years. The GCI release planner provided prevention education services for any inmate requesting the service and also assists HIV-positive women who are at their end-of-sentence in planning for support services after release, like LINC. In the three years of this program’s existence, 882 women completed the eight-week HIV/AIDS awareness classes; 937 women have been tested for HIV and 72 (7.68%) were identified as HIV infected. This project ended June 2003.
Pre-Release Planning Program (PRPP)
The Pre-Release Planning Program offers a less intense version of LINC as well, but includes all 67 correctional facilities and some transitional programs, such as work camps. Funded out of Ryan White Title II, the PRPP is responsible for offering pre-release services to all known HIV-positive prisoners in the Florida Department of Corrections facilities. Four release planners cover the entire state. The release planners also work with correctional staff and either provide the service directly to the inmate or work with corrections staff in other facilities to assist in the pre-release planning process. Since the PRPP is responsible for tracking all HIV-positive prisoners being released, PRPP and LINC staff routinely communicate among programs to make sure that there are no gaps in or duplication of services. About 774 men and women were served from April 2003 through March 2004. The Florida Legislature passed a law in July 2002 that mandates that all inmates be tested for HIV prior to the end of their sentence. It is anticipated that the number of HIV-infected inmates served annually will reach at least 1,000 as a result of this new law. Between January and December 2003, 9,917 inmates were tested for HIV.
Just some info I thought I would pass along.

My husband is at Tomoka. It is an ok place the visitation area is very nice
compared to where he was before. The only problem he has with it is they
change the rules from day to day as they please. Hope this helps and good
I know that it is not Tomoka, but I have a very dear friend that it is at Gulf C. I. and has been involved with the faith based program there for years and I beleive it was/is the best thing that he has ever done. Wonderful program! From what I know I would recommend it to anyone or any faith!
My husband is finally at Tomoka well since last Oct. anyway. It's pretty nice but yeah they change the rules from day to day. He's got his name on the list to go into the faith based dorm there. His Cousin and a best friend are already in there. They like it and it will be good for them. My honey also tried to get picked for ther Kairos weekend this past weekend but didn't but will keep trying till he does.
All n all he's been at worse places and is doing pretty good at Tomoka. And is pretty good for anyone trying to get to a faith based camp. But keep in mind that going to a faith based camp doesn't mean you go directly to that dorm. Your loved one will have to go see the chaplain and classification to be put on the list for that particular dorm and then wait till a bed becomes available since it's a program that they go through. Hopes this helps.

Hey~
My boyfriend was transferred to Tomoka CI in January. It is definitely better than where he was before, Lancaster CI. He is now involved in the the faith based program. The prison itself is not faith based, but this one dorm is. It is a year long program where they are surrounded by people who are either christians or looking to become a christian. He loves the program because it gives him time to learn and get closer with Christ. They have many different things to do with the programs such as bible studies and devotions. There are different prayer groups. Also, there are certain aspects to prepare the for everyday life things. They are separated into "families," which do bible studies and pray for one another. It is truly a good program and I wish it was more wide spread. There is normally a wait for the program. I hope this information helps!
My fiance says Tomoka and Zephyrhills are the two best prisons (if there is such a thing) in Florida, he should know he has been to 22 different camps.
My Honaey' Is At Tomoka...in The Beginning B-4 He Arrived There We Were Real Excited Cause The Camp He Was At Was Real Far...and The Guards Were A Bit Over-rated...in Anycase When He Finally Got There We Were A Bit Concerned With The Fact That Its Open Dorm And U Know U Dont Have Any Real Privacy In Anycase...only Threw God..they Moved Him To The Faith Based Portion Of The Prison...this Was A Real Blessing For Us Both...he Went There In Feb..and Within 2 Weeks He Was Moved To The Faith Based Portion Of The Prison..in Anycase He Works In The Kitchen Now And He Is Taking A Comp...class Its Not That Bad...u Have To Seperate Urself From Those Who Are Diffrent..u Also Have To Be Open Minded As Well Cause Everyone Is Not The Same
