Questions about Egeler Reception Center

I have read two different places to send money. My man will be transferred from Oakland County Jail to Charles Egeler Reception Center soon after his sentencing date of Feb. 25th. I want to send him money right away when he gets transferred, but I have read two different place so send money the Centralized Reception Office or do I just mail him a money order in his letters like I did in county to Egeler? I want to make sure he gets his money right away and that I don’t send it to the wrong place. Also can I send him books in Egeler and if so where do I order these from? Can he take the books, pictures, letters with him when he gets moved to a prison? Also can he call me I’ve already set up my cell phone through CBS and he has been able to call me from county will he still be able to call me from Egeler? I am new to all of this and need all the help I can get. Thanks!

I sent you another link with more 'STICKY' INFORMATION at the top of the page and if you click on the two of them there is a lot of infor regarding his process that may help ease your mind. Definitely get signed up with JPAY and use it to send him your letters since this is web oriented and will deliver his mail within 24 hours rather than waiting the snail mail time. Getting books to him can be tricky since he will only be there for 4 weeks but can done through Amazon. I have had books rejected even though they were posted as a 'NEW' book. Pictures can be sent through JPAY as an attatchment but will get printed in black and white so I recommend sending things with color to him via snail mail (regular mail). He will receive his pin number in a couple of weeks as the 'STICKY'S' note so if he is going to Egeler on the 25th you can start expecting a call a couple weeks after that. He may not be able to take the books with him when he is transferred out of Egeler but will be able to take his letters, pictures and other belongings. They do have a library at Egeler that my boyfriend got some reading material through. I recommend sending your first money amount $45 or less through JPAY on the 25th and using the receipting office and money orders there after. The Sticky's will have info on the store date which is every two weeks. Envelopes for him to mail is a lengthy time consuming process and is explained in the Sticky's on the links I provided.

Oh and one more thing that I experienced is even though my guy had money at county..........he didn't get it transferred to Egeler for 2 or 3 weeks. So yes any money they have at County will get transferred but may take 5 days or 3 weeks to get posted to their account. So don't send too much money but enough through JPAY when he arrives at Egeler so that he can get some personal hygiene items, envelopes and paper on his first store order day.

Make sure to read all you can from Juls and also look for the threads under Guidance and Reception Centers in the Michigan section because theres lots of fundamentals there. We have all left pretty lengthy messages about the Egeler experience so read up!! My bf was in OCJ also and I hated the visitations there. Well I hope your experience goes smoothly even though its a tough time for you, but we have all did the pitstop of Egeler.

If he's already got his Prison inmate # (different than his county) you can use Jpay.com All you have to do is put in his number it will find him and any money that you put into his account he will get with in 48 hours AND will follow him to the next place. you can also send mail through Jpay you just have to buy stamps (on .5 a page) and if you send it at night he'll more than likely get it the next day

oh also, My man was also in OCJ and transfered to Egeler, is there now. It took 18 days for him to get his pin and call me. (longest days of my life!) and the phone calls are very random and short usually. They only get yard 3-4 days a week and its first come first serve. You'll have to pick his stuff up from OCJ if he appoints you to do so. He wont be able to take ANYTHING to egeler with him. You pick it up on the opposite side of the visit area, in a holding type area by the garages.

If you don't already have it, go to OTIS dot com and get his MDOC number.
Set up a JPAY account and send him mail. even go out to the news sites and copy and paste stuff so he has SOMETHING to read.
ASAP go to amazon and order him some books. Three is a safe number. Get them to him ASAP. My son said the worst thing was having NOTHING to do all day and noone to talk to.
I choose to send just $50 per month so he gets all of it. over $50 and they start taking half to repay cort costs ect

Thank you all he's still at Oakland County Jail right now he goes before the judge for his sentencing this Thurs. March 18th it got pushed back from his orginal date. So I don't know how long after he get sentenced before he will go to Egeler he said he has to wait for a bed to open up before they will move him? I will make sure to set up Jpay and send him books and money orders as soon as he gets moved. Thank you for all of your help!

If you can, pack his account with as much money as you can before he gets shipped to Engler. Hers's the resion. What ever he has in his account at county will transfer to Engler. Once he is in Engler, he will get $50 of what you send for the month. Anything above the $50 they will keep 1/2. So lets say you put $250 in his account before he ships out, he will have $250 when he gets there. Wait until he is there and send $250 and he will have $150.

Also keep watching OTIS. The moment it has his MDOC number, go to Amazom dot com and order him some books sent to Engler. when you do the "ship to" make sure you put first and last name plus his MDOC number. He will have NOTHING when he first gets there. The sooner he gets some books the better

I have my cell phone set up pre-paid with CBS (Correctional Billing Services) that's what he called me on while he was in Oakland Co. but I was not sure what system Egeler used? I want to make sure I have my cell phone ready to go when he gets a chance to call I don't ever want to miss his call. Please any advice and help you can give me would be great. Thanks!

Hey LostHeart, You can send him money through JPay and it'll post next day. But there is a $6.95 charge... You can send stuff through Amazon, but it needs to be brand new and as far as being paper back, I am not so sure. You could always call Egeler and ask. (517) 780-5600 They are usually pretty good about answering any questions you have. As far as phone calls, keep your CBS account. Thats exactly what we can use. $1.91 for 15 minutes.
