Default Can Visitation AND Mail be blocked?

This is a bit sticky. My son is in North Florida for a few years on a sexual charge (he exposes himself) and was as a younger person, sexually abused by his figure skating coach. He was in for two years, out for a year and then a VOP sent him back because he did it again. He has about 2 years to do with no probabion in the end and all the sudden, out of the blue, after 3.5 years, this coach has sent him a card with a note in it. Drew is of course LIVID and I think when he was in the first time, I read somewhere that he can block a visit but does anyone know (specifically in Florida?) if he can block mail, too? Does he have to get mail like that? Can it be returned as refused? Any help is appreciated. He's pretty upset and thought he was moving on with his life and is happily engaged and in love of course and pretty upset. Thanks you guys Cindi

Well im not sure about florida but in california, the prisoner has the right to deny visits. MAybe at mail call, if he sees who its from he can just say for them to put "return to sender"on the envelope. You might want to post this in the florida forum, you will problably get more feedback.

I am sure he can write Return to Sender and drop it right back in the box unopened. And if the coach was charged, I think you sh ould notify his PO

No one's ever been interested in doing anything about the coach .

Cindy

Concerning visitations, you don't have to worry. The coach can't just show up like this !! He has to be on your son's visiting list, and only your son can send him a visiting form. So don't worry about visiting.

Concerning the letters, I'm almost sure he can't ask the mail room to block them. But the coach name and address have to be on the envelope, so he can either refuse to take it or trash it without even reading it.

Hang in there.
Phil

Phil is right, the guy has to be approved to visit and your son can prevent that from happening. Also he can simply put in a request to the mailroom to have any and all mail from a person or address blocked! Good luck!
