Please Stop Me Before I Eat Again!! LOL (Weight Loss)
Good morning, all...
Well, I've been perusing the Deiting & Health Forum and I don't see anything too current going on there other than one of the check-in stats threads and I feel funny as a stranger, jumping into someone else's wagon so...I'd like to start a new thread.
In the last three and a half years, I have ended a marriage, had my elderly mom move in with me, met my baby (MWI), my dog died, lost my mom last year, bought a new house/moved, had my first born move out into her first apartment and have about a year and four months until my man comes home from behind the walls. And guess what?
Yep, you're right! I've eaten myself through every life change that's come along! Happy, sad, irritated, angry, hurt, in love, wistful, depressed...you name it, I ate my way through it.
So the last checkup at the doctor produced an all-time high weight for me that scared the living crap out of me! No darn wonder I draaaaag around here with no energy. I'm amazed that these little feet can even hold me up anymore!!!
Here's the deal... I've got Richard Simmons' website and Weight Watchers website up on my screen and I'm ready to join either one of them because this has just GOT to stop! I'm in my mid 40's and still have a teenager to raise. My man will be coming home before long. I have everything to live for and honestly, I'm afraid at this point I'm going to kick from all of this weight and not be around to enjoy my life.
But before I join one of those other sites, I thought I'd come here first. Ya'll have been monumentally helpful to me in adjusting to this "prison thang" and I was wondering if there are any other ladies on here (and men, too!) that would be interested in putting down their forks, pushing away from the table and starting a weight-loss group. Even just a couple of people who are seriously ready to make changes to their health would be an awesome start, at least for me.
Any takers??

Weight Watchers works best Critter. Its a lifestyle change instead of a diet.
Also, here's a rule of thumb I use to give me more will power: 'THE ONLY THING I HAVE COMPLETE CONTROL OVER IS WHAT I PUT IN MY MOUTH'.

I'll come on board!!!!! this past weekend(sun.) i determined i was going to start eating right because i can't stand the way i look and i'm tired of complaining but not doing anything about it!!! since sun. i have stopped snacking, never eat after 7 and cut down my portion size. i do not let myself go hungry.i shouldn't say i STOPPED snacking, because if i get hungry i will eat an apple, banana, sugar free pudding, etc.,but NO junk food and since sun. i've lost 3 pounds now. i honestly can't believe it. thought i'd have to starve myself to lose but that's not true. i need a moderate diet, something that will help me MAINTAIN my weight.i've determined i for sure want to lose 11 pounds, but shhh... don't tell marc!! if anything he wants me to gain weight NOT lose it!!!

Thanks for your response! I had actually joined Weight Watchers a couple of years ago but getting to the meetings around my work schedule just wasn't working. I'm sure had I been really dedicated, I'd have found a way but...(sigh)...I didn't.
'Tis true..I do have the potential to control whatever goes in my mouth. Just not the ability! (grin) This is the floundering point...

Thank you, thank you!! As you can see, it's been a while since I posted this and had pretty much given up on the gang here on PTO. (smile) I had one really nice lady respond in PM and I wrote back to her but haven't heard anything since.
I signed up with Richard Simmons a few days after I posted this thread because I do like that they follow the ADA meal plans and promote that it's not a diet but a lifestyle change, as is Weight Watchers. But I just CAN'T get motivated!!
Sounds like you're doing awesome! Kudos to you for your progress, Ms. Beth. And your secret's safe with me. I won't tell Marc. (smile) You have to promise to keep this between us...and everyone else on the World Wide Web...lol...'cause baby likes me "thick." Well, there's a big difference between thick and nearly non-functioning...
So tell me...was it something specific that kicked you in the butt to make you start taking control of your eating habits or just finally got to that "I'm sick of this" stage?

Trust me you are not alone.I'm the same way.I eat during all types of situations. It just seems to be my comfort, but I hate at the same time. It's starting to get so out of control.I try exercise but give up after a couple of days because I also smoke cigerettes.Which doesn't help at all as far as strenuous physical activity goes.I'm about to buy an elliptical machine and pray that that works out for me.It works every area of the body and plus I can do it while watching tv.I'm not so much stressing about calorie intake because I was told by my dad (who works out all of the time)that it's not so much of how much you or what you eat.You just have to burn more calories than you put in.So I'll go with that and see how it goes. It's nice to know I'm not the only one that needs help in this area.Altohough I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. So thanks for the thread.

Well, from one smoker to another, I feel your pain...(smile) That's a big part of why this high weight has me so scared. I guess just not scared enough to do the work to get it off...
Your Dad is right that the key is to burn off more than you put in. Exercise makes such a difference and I get pretty much none. My job is in front of this computer and I work loooong hours.
An elliptical is a great piece of equipment. I've used one a number of times and really enjoyed them. Once the weight packs on, low or no impact becomes a factor and they're basically no impact on the knee and ankle joints. I bought a Total Gym (Chuck Norris and Christy Brinkley tout it on infomercials) and it's awesome...at holding my clothes up off the floor!! LOL It's not funny, really. It's just to the either laugh or cry point, I guess.
Ladies, you are already really helping me to not feel so alone in this and I thank you so much. As I type this, I'm looking at the picture of Chynab's little bundle of joy and if that's not motivation to get healthy, I don't know what is. Together, I think we can do this...

Good luck and I'll join a little weight loss club if there's a few people. I lost a lot of weight from Feb - Sept (from size 14 work skirt to size 8 work skirt, but size 10 in jeans) but I feel like I'm taking advantage of the weight loss and am finding myself at fast food joints more than ever.
I lost weight by cutting out all soda's and fast food.
My parents purchased a wii the children for this upcoming xmas and I plan to get wii fit. My coworker lost 30 lbs just from cutting her food portions in half and using wii fit once a day.
I also drown myself with coffee (just fat free creamer) and water throughout the day.

Great! We're at four so far. That's a really good start!
You did a fantastic job losing what you lost...good for you! I would imagine that once it comes off, it's probably hard to not think hmmm...that Big Mac won't hurt just this once. If I ever get there, I'll let you know...(grin)
Soda and fast food - HUGE culprits and I'm really guilty of the fast food. I only drink ginger ale if I do drink soda but since it's just my son and I and he's a very, very picky eater, fast food seems to happen here way more than it should. I'm also a big coffee drinker - have switched to fat free creamer and last week I found a new sweetener that supposedly doesn't have aspartame or saccharin. It's called Ideal and was created for diabetics. The sweetener comes from natural fruits.
I noticed a lot of new Wii Fit stuff coming out. My son has a Wii - think maybe it should be mine...(smile)
I'd like to do this up right so that it's fun for those of us in this little club. Before and after photos, check in threads or charts, maybe a weekly online get-together in some form. I would love to do a goals list and maybe have little prizes for biggest loser in a month or something along those lines.
Let's hear your ideas, ladies. If I don't make this interesting, I know me...I won't stick with it 'cause I'm weak, weak, weak! lol

I will join also, don't have to lose alot of weight but my story is that about 4 years ago I lost almost 70 lbs . Well started school about a year ago and started gaining weight again, about 10-15 lbs. ...and having a little bit more difficult time losing it this time. I have about 5-8 lbs to lose, don't want to get back to the same size as before. First time I had no moral support whatsoever, so this time it would be a good thing...

Wow, 70 pounds?!? That's fantastic! And you did that all on your own, huh? Kudos to you, dear lady. You are obviously a very strong soul...
I have read many times about the tendency for it to come back after losing a great deal of weight and that it's harder each time to get rid of. But I think it's great that you've gotten a handle on it before it became way too much to try to lose again!
I have no clue the ages of you ladies but do any of you find that it's harder to lose as you get older? Or if you don't have as much to lose?

Ah, Beth, I remember those days, being out and about in the working world. There are some benefits to working at home. (smile) I used to be in administration in an office setting and basically, every event was an excuse for food. And literally, from just before Thanksgiving to the first week after New Year's, there were always goodies all over the office, plus a huge cafeteria on the lower level of the building. Dangerous!! lol

Thank you all.Yes, I lost all by myself...I looked in the mirror and I was in my mid thirties and thought I looked entirely too old...really not happy with myself. I picked up the Dr. Phil book, that lists high yield foods and low yield foods, and started eating all the foods from the high yield food section Also, I used to drink alot of calories, whether it was soda or juice, just unnecessary calories. That, and doing all kind of tricks that tried to make me feel like I wasn't hungry, so I would not eat over 1200 calories a day. Like drinking water before I ate, and learning when I was full rather than cleaning my plate. Then I started walking, a little at first and gradually increased my time. After a while I was losing and didn't even want to....went from a size 14-16 to a 4. A 4 seems a little too skinny, and let me tell you I got all kinds of comments...very negative. Are you sick, on crack, I cannot tell you some of the hurtful things people said. Anyway, I have gone back to eating the same way and think I have lost a couple of pounds, but not what I want. By the way, I do not obsess over the scale..when I was losing never weighed myself...I could tell when my clothes started getting loose. I vowed that I would NEVER get back to that weight again, so I know that I will work and do whatever it takes...I do not plan on buying a whole new wardrobe yet again...since I threw all my other clothes away....I am on a mission.
