LeBlanc & Powledge Units

Found out today that my husband will either be moved to the LeBlanc or Powledge Unit in February 2005. Will know more November 2004. Does anyone know anything about this units?

Closer to my husband being home.

Someone who was housed in the Smith unit was transfered to Powledge. He seems to think it was an improvement, and Smith is not one of the worst units to be at. He says it's unbelievable ... they actually treat people like human beings, you have your own box with 4 sets of clothes, they bring them fresh clean sheets every week, food is better, and said he hadn't had it that easy the whole time he's been in.

My son was at the LaBlanc unit in Beaumont for 6 months as a condition of his parole. When he got there he said they gave him so much food that he couldn't eat it all but when the 'budget cuts' hit last year the food was cut also and they were getting next to nothing at meals again. He was released November 2003 so I don't know what is happening now.

This unit is a recovery program situation. Up at 5:am and you do not see bed again until 10Pm You will always be at either work or group meetings. This is a unit where the inmates are responsible for each other's behavior. The rules in place require you to write each other up, submit problems to whatever chain of command is in place, etc. It is not a great situation but they do stress the 12 step programs (which cant really hurt anyone to learn) and force structure of habit. There are military type inspections of the cells and a lot is expected of you. Because this is a pre-release program and parole is dependant on satisfactory completion of the program, it is doable!
Also.... Guard harrassment is almost non-existant and with the exception of the military type bosses over the hoe squad a few substandard psyc directors are more dangerous here. Also, count on all medical restrictions being stripped away as he enters this place. The warden in charge when my son was there was of the thought that EVERYONE had to do time on hoe squad. This can be rectified fast enough by contacting both, the warden and medical director immediately by phone to (VERY NICELY) make sure everyone is aware of the problem. Then follow that up with letters/emails to TDCJ board or professional standards, ombudmans office, 4 or 5 state representatives offices making sure they all know who else is receiving the document(s). Keep in mind though, parole is looming which means you need to be careful HOW you approach things.

Thank you so much for your information, ladies. I wrote my husband a letter telling him about my findings from BPP. I am hoping he goes to the unit at Palestine. It is closer to home. I just am ready for him to come home. Oh so ready. In all practicality(sp), I hope he goes to the Unit with the best drug program. He has an addiction to speed. Thanks again.

Powledge is the former Beto II. It is a very easy going unit. Some folks call it a retirement shelter. The inmates are all older, no young bucks (18-25 year olds).

I always heard that the Powledge Unit was for older inmates, also. It is in Tennessee Colony about 20 miles from Palestine. Blessings,

My brother WAS in Powledge Unit (formly Beto II), he was released, after doing 10 flat years on a 25 year sentence, in Sept 2000. He was out 13 months and went back down. After doing the Gurney transfer thing, he went to Coffield Unit were he stayed until about 9 months ago, when under a condition on his parole, he went to the LeBlanc Unit. It is kind of like SAFP, from what I understand. My brother will be home next Thursday, February 5th....yeehaa!

Congrats. Hope your brother is as excited as you are. Please don't think me rude, was your brothers addiction alcohol or drugs? My husband has an addiction to speed. Hope he goes to the unit that supplies him with the most help for the struggle he will be facing.

And it was a lot of help. More so for the other unit but Beto sounds the same and close to moma.

shytxone if your out there and you/your brother have an update i'd like to hear it. or anyone else whose SO is/was at Leblanc.
