I read it, and it has given me a sense of hope. CA is in the middle of financial crisis, this may be the beginning of the fiscal awareness of releasing long term inmates!

That State Supreme Court ruling from last year will help other California lifers in for murder who are well past their mandatory minimum and who have competed lots of programs, education, training, and who have had no disciplinary issues, etc.

To me, it at least shows a change in thinking - at least at the State Supreme Court level - regarding murderers who have been rehabilitated successfully. Keeping this group of lifers in, based solely on the heinousness of their crimes, seems to be becoming a thing of the past and it's about damned time.

Unfortunately NY does not have the same attitude. Although parolee's in NY do not need the approval of the Governor the appointed Commissioners are still of the mind set that the nature of the crime, which will NEVER change is reason enough to keep them. Sigh.....................

Perhaps in time if California sets the tone, it will ripple across the country and NY'ers will have a wake up call....Ya Think?

yeap...yeap
The board has been giving more dates than usual recently because of all of the appeals that are coming through in our favor. There is also a huge decision(about 300 lifers) are waiting on to be decided right now concerning the "Hayward case". Some lifers are getting their appeals granted through the lower courts without even having to appeal to the higher courts.

Hello,
As optomistic as I try to be and hopefully this will come through.
However, realistically, I have to see it to believe it...

Im not trying to be a damper on someones parade, but Ive heard so many hopeful things, that havent happened, that I need to see it to believe it..

All I can do is lift it up to my Lord. He knows me Heart and he knows I want my husband home...

ALso, I HOPE this really helps the 3strikers as well

I have a friend who was just released last week. His sentence was 15 to life and he had been down 18 years. It is possible! =)

Yeap and I PERSONALLY know of two lifers that were released three months ago. One of them a real good friend of my husbands that wrote and sent him pictures, so he's doing very well.
I'm very happy for those that have made it out!
Also all one has to do is research to find out the truth.
I have a list of 2009 cases that prove those facts.

This has nothing to do with the third strike law. What is being discussed is the study denial of lifers through the unjust parole board and Governor. You must be confusing the 3 federal judge panel ruling with the lawsuits concerning the parole board.

Your welcome.
I also heard a lot of rumors about lifers concerning that federal ruling but unfortunately that's all it is....just rumors.
My husband and I don't pay attention to those type of rumors. We heard that the feds were gonna come in and start releasing the lifers first..and...blah blah blah. Like you, I only pay attention to facts because we gotten our hopes up so high numerous times due to rumors or so called "inside information".

I agree i only pay attention to the facts. like the whole 3 judge panel. It pasted, however, attr. Gen. Jerry Brown has until tomorrow to appeal their notion. Which, there was a big turn out (friend told me) last friday to convience him not to appeal the appeal. Ill know tomorrow and see what happens...
RIght now, I dont get my hopes up, I just go with the flow. Unless I receive an email from all my organizations that me and my friend belong too that saids 3 strickers are going to get resentanced to a justifiable term, until then its all hear say.
thanks for your input and concern

I’m hoping and praying there’s reform within the three strikes law. That law was implemented for a certain group of people but was used wrongly and not what it was originally intended to do. All of the lifers that I know are not third strikers since my hubby has been incarcerated for close to 25 years and all of his friends were in prison before that law was enacted. I never go by word of mouth, I go by actual rulings. I’m part of many prison groups, have friends that are known prison activists and do what I can to help as well. I’m not concerned with the 3 judge panel ruling because unfortunately it has little effect on most of the lifers that I know so we’re not depending on that ruling but on actual appeals found in our favor through the courts. It’s a shame our system can be so blind to what is just. I hope everything goes in your favor.
