FLDOC - What You Need to KnowInformation relating to the Florida Department of Corrections. Q&A for those new to the FLDOC system should be posted here.
Hi....The information I am posting is the truth. The person giving me the information is honest and fair. The only thing they are guilty of is being young and accepting of whatever the DOC tells them. I am not trying to stir up trouble here I am just trying to share info and get more info hopefully. My source tells me that many of the women at Lowell were on meds and the State is denying them saying they can't afford it....as many of you know, abruptly stopping anti-depressants and the like is dangerous....The other curious thing was a mass burning that went on for days it consisted of uniforms (inmate) records, pictures of inmates...the fires were manned by inmates and CO's alike....one inmate was burned by the fire and then was told she was gonna get a DR cause she did not get back from the fire as told.....how sick is that? The place was abuzz with cleaning....I was told the inmates were worked like crazy apparently preparing for a visit from Tallahassee.... Tallahassee came and went. When I asked why the fires I was told it was an attempt to get more money for the prison...(to buy new uniforms etc) Now, you know I don't believe that one...my concern was that perhaps there was some kind of infection, lice, ???? they were trying to destroy by fire but that wouldn't account for the documents that were burned...???? Does anyone have any facts or theories about my information?????? Again this is not to frighten anyone....I just know I am always hungry for the truth and I appreciate whenever any one is brave enough to post what they know....plus I do believe in solidarity.....we gotta stick together!!!!!! first let me say its nice to have someone to take to about lowell
I can touch on this subject for a bit.
my female friend is back at lowell after a being at homestead for the last 5 years.
she was saying not much has changed at lowell, and she did 2 1/2 there to start.
she says its still a shit hole and that homestead was better, and this is after all the changes that have gone on at the old DADE CI.
i will make a point of asking her what is going on at lowell.
just for the record i think BCI is the most heavlly meds in the system .
and yes lowell is the worst place to do time for a woman acording to her.
i guess the male C/O's are real pigs.

This is insane and I want to know why this hasn't been in the papers? I highly suggets calling the Tampa Tribune and getting a reports to look into this. I am willing to be the abuse and burning of documents will stop quick.

Anthony, I am so sorry your friend is at Lowell it sounds as if it is a Hell Hole.....I know she is strong and will survive....I kows she is lucky to have your support too......
Bella, I totally agree those documents should not have been destroyed.....especially by inmates and CO's....however the could have been from decades ago...I don't know....The media is our only answer for all of our issues in my opinion, but if they don't care about murder inside I doubt they will care about destruction of pictues of beaten inmates and documents.....Good Luck.......Judy
Anyone up for calling? I am positive that there are hungry reporters looking for stories like this especially with an election year going on.

This is kind of late but all that is true & more my daughter was just in there & told me all kinds of stuff like that. Her dorm had no showers working, toilets broken no water, holes in windows, worms coing out of sinks etc etc. Well I did something about it & the state came in. The only problem is she has paid dearly for that. She is not being treated for hep C no bi-polar meds & now has been transferred to Homestead where I hear the warden i sadistic & evil & does terrible things! I can't believe they get away with all this. I have kept all her letters & notes on Lowell!
Damn I am sorry to hear that crazy things are going on in Lowell. I really think you guys should call the media and get them involved because it will stir up at lot of sht. I know I would do it if it happened to my man at Martin CI.

Everything that is said about Lowell is right, my daughter told me everything including them burning stuff, they sd nothing was true like she was a liar. Tell your friend to be careful, they do retaliate. I got one dorm fixed it wasn't fit for pigs, worms coming out of the sinks. Before she left they stuck her in another dorm worse then that one I think to send a message. She was transferred to Homestead I heard terrible things about that place that the warden is sadistic & cruel!
Billsnan....I am glad to hear that you have the same info I do...I don't know what to say about your daughter except that I hope she gets to come home soon and I know she is grateful to have a MOM who cares so much.... I wish you both the best...My source is outta there too....but I am sure it is still a Hell Hole...it is a sticky situation because there is always that real fear of retaliation........My prayers are with you....Judy
Funny everything she told me they said she was lying & when I read posts it's the same EXACT story as she said! I am real nervous about Homestead from what I'm hearing & Lowell knew just what they were doing. I hear the warden nut starts cutting down their sleeping as soon as they get there more & more & then gives too many antidepressents to make them drugged up plus all the time working. She is sick w/hep C & run down really worries me.
They better not push me I will go to the papers or where ever else I have to go!

My fiance is an inmate at LCI, and she has not mentioned any thing like this unless she does not want to say on the phone. I am going down again in March and will see what she will tell me. Will post another message around the 3rd week of March.
My finance is an inmate at LCI, and she has not mentioned any of this to me, unless she does not want to over the phone. I do know that they were cleaning up for a visit from Tallahasse when I was last there in January. I will be going down again in March, and see what she will tell me. I will put another message here when I return, around the 3rd week of March.
My daughter told me exactly what the other women said about the fire etc, they sd everything she sd was a lie but I have seen others say the same things. The reason they were cleaning up at that time was because I had sent letters to all kinds of people about the worms coming out of sinks, no water, toilets not working, the women freezing due to no heat & holes in the windows etc. They redid the whole dorm she was in at that time. I also reported about them getting hotdogs so hard they couldn't eat them, the food got better for a little while after that. It is a hell hole & the warden is a cold bitch!
Anymore information on Lowell?? Did you go to visit last month kingrichard? I'm just wondering if situtations there have gotten any better or not.
I last went March 12-14. I am going again April 30-May 3rd. My finance has till January 12, 05 left on her time. Things are generally "ok", from what she can tell me, and of course you know how that is, somethings they can't tell their relatives and spouses. It seems as though they start to pick on the ones who have little time left, DR's suppossedly for smoking in the john for ex. It costs her not getting her 10 days gain time for March. It was true about some of the things they did getting ready for the Tallahassee visit several weeks ago. Tomorrow is another visit from a state agency and she told me who, can't remember their title. The inmates seem to be having a problem getting some of their mail, the property room seems to hold anything they order for crafts for several days, and in one instant returned an order from Pam to the manufacturer (NASCO yarn), and gave no reason for doing so. The money for it was deducted. I had to call NASCO and re-order the yarn. As of today (Sunday 4-11), she still had not received it. Living in Va. makes it difficult to touch base with these people at the instituition. I have an email address: email removed by Forum Leader due to PTO policies/please contact members via PM or posts if you would like to sometimes keep in touch, and please do. I still have not heard anything about Hillsborough being changed to a womens faith base facility. I get vague answers, some say, weeks, some say soon, some say "I don't know that".
