hi, just wondering what are we allowed to send through the post? A list of all the items would be really appreciated.....say if a card is made by the children with long strings and other bits and pieces....will that be allowed?....Thanks
My children have sent cards that they have made with bits of string etc, and he has recieved them no problem. I too have made cards, and bought handmade cards all of which seems to be fine also. However, there may be a delay in him recieving these as they have to be thoroughly checked to make sure there is nothing untowards 'hiding' in them. I have also sent legal docs, newspaper/magazine cut outs, plain paper, stamps through the post, all too have been fine. Hope this helps. x
well ive sent the following theyve all got to him eventually:
home made cards
even sent him some trainers on friday n he got them yesterday!
i send loads in but like shaun's girl said some things take longer to get to them because of the checks the prison staff have to do but they all get there eventually! xxx
I think u can send the cards stamps letters thats the standard i mean u can also send the clothers and trainers that depends on the prison and inmate category and sometime inmate has to get premission from the prison govenor which is quite easy.
God bless u
Thank you so much for this thread, it helped a lot as i was unsure as well. I went onto a website which said you can send books in via Amazon but they have to be soft copies and directly from the company?
My experience is that it's best to ring and ask for a list of permitted items. SOME places will do so.
As I understand it, some prisons only allow stuff sent direct from certain suppliers. A friend told me almost the first thing he was shown was an Argos catalogue. It isn't actually Argos, the prison service has done a deal with Argos (try finding a playstation 1 or 2 in the catalogues) and the prices prisoners pay is higher than the same item in the 'civilian' Argos catalogue.
The above is from personal research & some websites. Stamps, for example, are currency so Peterborough prison (where my mate is likely to end up) doesn't allow them. If you search, maybe there will be a list of acceptable items that may be bought.
Odd thing is that ANYTHING with static memory (keeps data with power turned off) are totally not allowed. I suspect pornography is the reason for that.
Please check everything I say for yourself; I make mistakes like everyone else.
