FLDOC - What You Need to KnowInformation relating to the Florida Department of Corrections. Q&A for those new to the FLDOC system should be posted here.
I was wondering if anyone had any info on this subject. My fiance is in for another 3 years - and he was interested in doing somekind of schooling while in - but unfortunately education was cut out at his prison and he is left picking up cigarette butts in the yard as his "job". Does anyone have any info on school that can be done by mail to a prisoner - I have checked around but there are lots that are on line and they would obviously need access to a computer - but does anyone know of one that he may do by mail while he is locked up - thanks.
How long has he been at his permenant place. If he has been there 12 months then he can put a request in for a transfer to a facility that has all the schooling he would need. My fiance is waiting for the same thing. My fiance still has 4 years to go unless they change the 85% rule. Good luck and stay strong.

Go online at Barnes and nobles and send him a GED book, until he is able to get a transfer, then maybe all he has to do is take his test. That's what I was going to do w/ my hubby.

Thanks for the info - he has a high school diploma already - he was interested in some sort of correspondence schooling he can start to get some credits for college through. I was told of the University of Iowa -someone told me that they do correspondence schooling - I asked for a brochure - only thing is - will the prison let the brochure through so that he can see what he would be interested in. Any ideas?

DO a search here on PTO for college courses. I posted quite a bit of info and I think it was in the general forum a while ago. It was the University of Ohio. The probelm is that the warden at the facility would have to approve it. My guy got denied ;(
