Hi, I am a new member here & I met & married my husband while he was incarcerated. He was going to have us wait till he got out to get married, but figured I would have more say so as his wife.We put in for permission & was interviewed by the chaplain at the prison & then received word that our application was denied because it wasn't a benefit to society! When my fiance & I both put in greivance,we're then given permission to get married.
At that time we're one of the last allowed to get married behind bars.
My parents were witnesses & I was allowed to wear in my gown & artificial flowers & he asked me instead of bringing in a change of clothes for him if he could just wear his blues.Since it's my favorite color,I just asked if he would roll his long shirt sleeves down & sure enough upon arrival he was walking down the visitation with his shirt sleeves rolled down waiting for me to button them!
We shared a can of 7up afterwards!
great story, annette...it's not the ceremony that matters, it's the love between two people. sounds like you added special personal touches to your union. congratulations!

What was funny,& I'm sure it happens to couples who marry on the streets-is neither of us remember or even heard what the justice of the peace was saying! My husband later had me track down & get a copy of the ceromonial that he had used.
Thank you JessiesGurl..my husband was killed while he was incarcerated-but to this day I still go visit his grave & no one will ever tell us again how long & when we can be together.
Oh Annette! Such a beautiful story with such a sad ending! I am so sorry that your husband was killed while incarcerated. It breaks my heart. I know that is a possibility every day that my husband is in there. I just try not to think about it. You are in my prayers. God bless you.

mixtalia, yes I know that my husband is with me-he is what has gotten me thru every second of the day for these past years! People have always asked about me remarrying, but I know that I have met my true match in this world & no need to look anymore. He will always be my husband & I his wife. And I wish so many others could find their true match because when you do you don't have to try to please or try to be someone you're not-you can be yourself & you're treasured & appreciated for who you're by your one true mate.
