Sex Offender Treatment and Management programs in BOP
The latest information regarding programs/institutions for sex offenders in the BOP (provided by EJ Hurst II, Attorney at Law).
"A very credible source in the BOP's Office of General Counsel
offered the following information on the Sex Offender Management Programs
("SOPs" or "SOMPs") and the Sex Offender Treatment Program ("SOTP,"
voluntary program with 112 beds) at Devens. Besides the Treatment Program
at Devens, the Management Programs are general population housing and, so,
have no set limit on participants (though it seems Psych Services
availability may have an impact). SOMPs are typically not voluntary
assignments. This list was current as of last month (November 2008).
One SOP per Region:
Northeast Devens FMC (active) - plus the residential SOTP
(voluntary), 112 beds (only one in the BOP)
My sons P.O. (Or whomever does this stuff) just told him that there was not a SO program in Petersburg, even though one of his former cell mates who was supposed to go to Butner, is now there. We are in TN. They are telling him he will probaby go to Devens. He is just 26, 1st offense. This doesn't make sense. Is there anything we can do to help have that recommendation changed and if so what? His sentencing is not until April 6th. Thank you.
He should have his lawyer contact Petersburg and see if there is a SO program there - if that is what your son needs/wants. If there is one, he could present that information to the Court and ask the judge for a recommendation for that facility. The final decision is up to the BOP but the recommendation from the Court may help.
