FLDOC - What You Need to KnowInformation relating to the Florida Department of Corrections. Q&A for those new to the FLDOC system should be posted here.
Ok it looks as though my Drew has finally landed, after doing his bit in Orlando for processing and he's clear up by the Panhandle. Does anyone have or know anything about Hamilton CI or Hamilton Annex? He's in the Annex but will probably go to the main unit in about a week. I have NO clue. It's just about as far as they could get him away from his family which is sad but any words anyone has on any goods, bads or indifferents on this place would be interesting to know. Thanks in advance! Cindi

I wish i could help you. My son spent 5 yrs in the panhandle in Sneads Florida at the Appalachee correctional and he just got a transfer to Raiford just last week. Its a long haul up there . Not knowing where your from but i live near Orlando and it took me 5- 6 hrs everytime not counting you have to drive up the day before the expense of a hotel room and dinn er and gas. So i only visited him once every month or so.I feel for you that hes so far away!!!

Well he's now out of the annex and in the main unit and today being the first day, someone stole all his stuff; his hygiene and even his eyeglasses (he also has some contacts left, luckily but they won't last forever). Says it's a younger crowd on the main side and he's not thrilled.
I'm in Sarasota/Bradenton area and have decided it's about a 4 hr. drive each way. Visitation has been approved so will head up after the holidays for his birthday to see him and see how bad it is.
Thanks for the responses!

my fiancee just was moved from hamiliton annex to lawtey c.i. i am from citrus county by ocala and it took me exactly 2hrs straight up i-75. The main unit is for 18-25yr olds. From what i hear the annex part is real nice and when i went to visit i really liked that facility. The main part though i heard is quit rough. I'll be praying for u guys
Jennifer - yeah I'm picking up on vibes that the main unit may be pretty rough. Sorta frustrating. He was in a youthful offender facility in Cocoa before and the annex was quiet and he really didn't mind that but this may be a bit tougher it seems like.
Thanks
Cindi

Cindi, There are youthful offenders at Hamiliton Main Unit but they are kept in one dorm by themselves. There are inmates of all ages there. My honey is 39 years old and he has someone in his dorm that is in his late 60's. I think the only time the youthful offenders and others interact is during rec, but I could be wrong. As far as it being a bad facility, my opinion all facilities have its fair share of good and bad. My honey has had trouble with guards and at one time had trouble with another inmate but that was it. He says he just has to know what guard likes/dislikes what. You know what I mean? If you need any other info PM me. Yvonne
Hey Cindi,
My man is there at the Annex also but in the box.... Soon to get out on April 3rd... Will be home 7/26/06.... The main is not bad if you stay to yourself.. Some gaurds are decent/ some are dirty... instant message me if I can be of any help....
I have visited John in the annex, he has been there for just under a year, he previously came from the YO facility down in cocoa *brevard ci* where he had been since he was 15. We have had some problems in the annex but we are surviving.
