Default 2 suspended from Tamms work camp

Printed in paper this am.

The superintendent of a minimum -security work camp nest to the supermax prison here has been suspended while police investigate reports of misconduct, state officials said Tuesday.
Gregory Gossett was put on paid leave Nov. 13, Illinois Department of Corrections sposman Sergio Molina said. Prison carpenter Philip Atherton was placed on leave at the same time, he said.
Illinois State Police is investigating reports employees were making items for personal use at the work camp's carpentry shop, where workers help maintain the facility in this far southern Illinois town, said Saline County State's Attlrney Rod Wolf.
A state police spokesman declined to comment.

Just thought some might be interested to know this.

Very interesting. Perhaps some of the other facilities need to be looked at as I'm sure this isn't isolated to Tamms alone.

I don't find this shocking or appalling. Did they do this on work time? Or did they use the saw in the workshop to cut their own lumber for a project?

I am sure that this was done on work time, as to whether they used their own materials or the camps I do not know. This is not the first time I have ever heard of this type of thing going on though.

Its as if some guards think that they can do whatever they want not only with the inmates but with things that belong to the state. If one of us done this, you know we would be charged with theft. So why haven't charges already been brought is what I want to know?

This is probably not the only place this goes one, but it is probably one of those things that are overlooked.

From the stories I'e been told I would say it's fairly certain this sort of thing is happening all over. I've always said the film 'Brubaker' is still true today, the only thing that's changed is they've all got better at covering it up!!
