OKAY HEY EVERYONE I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS FOR YOU....... MY FRIEND IS RECENTLY INCARCERATED AT WASCO PRISON FOR MURDER IN SELF DEFENSE,GOT SENTENCED TO SIXTEEN YEARS. DO ANY OF YOU HAVE A CLUE ON WHAT OPTIONS HE HAS FOR AFTER WASCO? I AM SORRY I AM PRISON ILLITERATE, ALL I KNOW IS THAT HE IS DOING SOME TIME A BUNCH AND HE IS LOOKING AT A LEVEL FOUR. ALSO WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO GIVE HIM A FAT HUG? AND TELL HIM JUST HOW STRONG HE IS FOR DEALING WITH WHAT NEEDS TO BE HANDLED
i don't know how to answer your question cuz i am in the same situation, not exactly but i would definitley like to know where my fiance will serve his time at. i am new to all this prison stuff too. my fiance isn't so he tells me to keep strong but i'm still uneasy about it. when i get used to him being in there maybe i'll feel better
Well, my husband just recently left Wasco. I will tell you what I know from my experience.
Once he was sentenced, he was sent to Wasco, so he could be sent to mainline, once he was his counselor. It took about two months for them to decide which prison to send him too for him to serve his sentence. I am sure they have asked your friend which prison he would like to go to, but they never send him to the prison he chooses. they pretty much just send him to where there is room and where they house people of the same level.
As far as contact visits, from my understanding, after being processed, he should be able to get contact visits.
Hopefully this helps a bit. I know how you feel, believe me, I just went through all that! Best advice anyone can give you is to keep writing to him and keep your head up!
While waiting in reception he should be eligable for non-contact visits- Visits behind glass-for 1-2 hours. You must be an approved visitor in the state of california. He will need to send you a visitors form. You will fill it out, return it too the visiting department, and await your approval. Should take no more than 30 days.
If he is classified as a level 4 inmate, he will be sent to a level four facility. You can go to the CDC website and look at all the facilities in the state. It will tell you which are level 4's. Level 4's off the top of my head would be , Tehachapi, High Desert, Folsom, Corcoran, Pelican Bay, Centinela. Those are a few I can think of. He will not get to choose where he goes, it will depend first on where there is room ( a bed) and what needs he has if any, educational, medical, ect.
Once he is transfered to is permanent facility, I use that word lightly as it could change if they see fit, he will be on Orientation status for up to 3 weeks. Which means limited privledges, and still non-contact visits. Once he is off orientation status, you will then be able to have contact visits, regular visits and give him a hug. I would say you are looking at a minimum of 120 days before you get to hug him..maybe even a little more..
Good Luck !
