Default A couple of questions from a newbie... ~ Harris County Jail

I have a loved one who is at 701 N. San Jacinto. This is the first time we have had to deal with Harris County. I went to visit him for the first time yesterday, and although my experience wasn't as bad as I was expecting, it was really hard to be able to approach any of the guards to ask a few simple questions (especially being in the confused and distressed state that I'm in). I browsed the forums for awhile, and couldn't find any information on here about my questions. Hopefully, someone can help me by responding to this post.

First, when they took him, he had flip flops on. Is there any way I can deliver shoes to him? I checked the website, and couldn't find any information about that.

Second, the rules regarding visitor IDs state the following:
Quote:
Visitors must have valid state or federal ID card or drivers license. All identification must contain bearers photograph.
Children sixteen years old, or younger, do not need identification when a parent or legal guardian accompanies them.
People seventeen years old, or older, must have proper identification to visit.
Does anyone here know if there are any exceptions to this rule? I was able to ask one of the guards on my way out about bringing a foreign passport, and he told me it would be okay if that person had some kind of U.S. immigration stamp on it. Anyone know if someone would be able to get in with a U.S. student ID, or perhaps one of those consulate cards ("Matricula Consular")?

Third, is there any way to get a list of the comissary items so I have an idea how much money I will need to deposit so that he can order everything he needs come Tuesday?

Sorry if this was long-winded. I wish each and everyone of you and your loved ones the best, and you are in my prayers.

God bless.

I have been looking for one myself. Hopefully someone will be along with one. I wonder if they can give you one at the jail.

I don't have the actual commissary list but this link to the Harris County Sheriff's Department will give you some basic information. I know that the items are pricey. But the $75.00 assures they eat well.

Concerning the shoes - at least as of the time my son was in county - if they do not have tennis shoes on at the time of arrest they will be provided with proper shoes. I believe it's flip-flop types and/or tennis shoes.

My sons girlfriend is notorious for losing her license. She was able to visit with her paper license and a picture ID (student card). In order to make sure before taking a chance you might want to call first -

Hope this helps some. If you have any other questions feel free to give a yell.

Janice
