Post visiting 701 n san jacinto harris county

When i found out my friend was going to spend 6 month in Harris county jail, i started scouring the internet looking for any info i could find on this jail. I really wasnt worried about him as he spent 10 years with TDCJ and has only been out for a year. I was wondering the normal stuff. Like visitation hours and how long it takes to see him when i go and what kind of stuff can he get in the mail and so forth. Well I have been going everyday for a week now and I have to say that some of the comments on here just dont ring true. I have been at all different times on weekdays and on weekends. I went in the morning on Sat and in the afternoon on Sun. I arrive around 530 everyday except for wed and thurs. I get there around 630 to 700. I have never had to wait more than 10 min in line to see him. Now granted i did take some good advice from this site and make out my slips prior to my getting there and only take one key so they cant stop me at the metal detector. I have also done a little asking around up there as to why some of the lines are longer that others. I found out that if your loved one is on floor seven then you will wait long. Thats because the "youngsters" are housed on that floor. ie..the mommas and daddies visit often. I have a good experiences so far and my friend is hoping to be transferred to louisiana. He says its much better over there. Has anyone got any news on that? I want to send a thanks out to all who give on this site. It has helped me tremendously and I hope my experiences help someone else

docslilgirl - I'm glad to hear that you've had a positive experience in your dealings with Harris County. Unfortunately there are many negativities that have been experienced. Mine has been mainly due or resticted to the attitude of certain officers but not all.

Through my sons experience I've heard a little about the Louisianna jails but not all positive. I think in some ways when the guys have been sitting in the county for a length of time any alternative is like "the grass is greener".

I hope you continue to have a hassle free journey with Harris county!!

All the best ~ J

Thanks for your response. I have come to believe that each floor is ran differently when it comes to visitation. I was there yesterday at my normal time 530 to 545 or so, and absently mindedly got off on 2 instead of 3 floor. Well, they all look the same and I thought nothing of it. I noticed that all the booths were taken up by visitors just sitting there waiting for their loved one and that there were also a lot of visitors standing around waiting also. I put my slip in and began the wait. It was 605 when a few of the inmates started coming in. I found out that this was the first visit of the day and their had to be more than 40 people in there! I was concerned because i didnt have a place to sit at the booth as was the case for alot of people. What began to happen was that all the inmates who had visitors there were coming in and their visitor had no where to sit. It was madness!!! everyone pushing each other to get to a booth if they saw their loved one and all that stuff. I was getting very frustrated because i didnt want to miss him and i felt my time was running out. and on top of all this...??? visitors were still poring out of the elevator and turning in slips. Well all of the sudden i hear my name called and was told i was on the wrong floor. Feeling stupid yet excited that I would not miss him, I went up a floor and was back to my peaceful calm place i was used to. The sergeant up there is very efficient and runs a tight ship. She calls the inmates name out so they know when to enter the visitation area and you can hear when they are coming. THANK GOD for the 3rd floor!!!

I've heard the 2nd floor is BAD!!! you have to yell at each other through a tiny screen and it's extremely crowded like you said. So the 3rd floor is a good floor for visitation huh?

I havent had any problems. Of course we have to scream up there too. But not crowded all the time so its not hard to hear. I would rather be at home with him.
