Well it really depends on where your fiance is incarcerated at. I had to get a packet from the warden to fill out, hire a preacher, and I also had to get a lawyer to get the marriage license for us, because he is incarcerated in a different county than where I live. But our ceromoney is going to be in the visit room, and we get to have our rings, and we get 1 witness that has to be on his visit list.
But like I said thats what I have to go through with the prison where my man's at, and you'll just have to contact your mans warden.
Good luck And welcome aboard!

All states are different Red. You'll have to ask at the prison to see exactly what they require. Usually a packet with a bunch of paperwork to fill out and then a long wait to hear from them. Best of luck to you. I too am getting married.....this Friday at Salinas Valley State Prison in Northern California. Mine took a while to get together, but it's finally here!!

I HAD TO FILL OUT A COUPLE OF PAPERS,WRITE A LETTER TO THE CHAPLAIN SAYING WE WANTED TO GET MARRIED.WE STILL HAVE TO FIND A PREACHER,JUSTICE OF THE PEACE,OR ANYBODY THAT CAN MARRY US BECAUSE THIS CHAPLAIN REFUSES.ONCE I FIND SOMEONE HE/SHE HAS TO CALL THE CHAPLAIN AND THEY CAN SET A DATE.THEN ALL I HAVE TO DO IS GET THE LICENSE.

Default A California Newbie

Hello everyone- I'm new to this forum. I guess I should have posted first in the introduction section, but...I've been reading the messages in this section...looking for a little love and inspiration-

My boyfriend was just transferred to salinas valley state prison last month. There's a whole long story of us and I will go back and post it in the introduction section, but I do have a question for Freedom anjel- I would love to hear about your wedding there and any other experiences you have had with that prison- I'd like to know what to expect-

And congratulations to everybody who has been able to follow through with a wedding and then marriage in this situation- I truly admire you all.

My advice is don't expect alot. Our wedding was in the visiting room, and there were no flowers, no music, no pictures, not much of anything. Only me, my husband, the chaplain, the best man (inmate), the maid of honor (inmate), and an officer standing by. The chaplain read our vows, we exchanged rings, kissed, and that was it. Then I had to leave and come back during normal visiting hours. So we will have our real wedding and reception after he gets out.

see that is the sad thing about it all. is when you say your vows that is it. its over you have to leave and he has to go back to his place. you dont get no time to soak it up that you just said I DO..... but i know here in WA some of the prisons here you have to go through counseling before you get married and you have to find your own pastor. but the place he is at now is a lot more lenient. i know that the place across the mountains said that i had to see him at least once a month for 6 consecutive months. i will let you know what goes. i dont know if we are just going to wait until he gets out or if we are going to do it up in there. my parents are all with it. they know i am happy with him. that is all that matters.

Our marriage license was signed in the visiting room in front of the pastor and witnessed by the best man. Have him ask around and I'm sure the other prisoners will be able to give him some info. Good luck!!

I KNOW 2 YEARS AGO HERE IN WASHINGTON STATE... MY FIANCE' HAD TO NOTIFY THE CHAPLAIN THAT WE WANTED TO GET MARRIED AND HE GAVE HIM THE PAPERWORK. THEN WAS TOLD WHEN WE WERE DONE FILLING IT OUT. IT WAS SENT TO HEADQUARTERS FOR REVIEW AND APPROVAL. IN THE MEANTIME I HAD TO GO TO THE AUDITOR AND GET THE MARRIAGE LICENSE AND SEND IT TO HIM SO HE CAN GET IT NOTORIZED OVER THERE WHERE HE WAS AT. ANOTHER REQUIREMENT WAS THAT WE HAD TO DO PREMARRIAGE COUNSELING I BELIEVE IT WAS 3 SESSIONS. I CANT REMEMBER EXACTLY. ALSO THE COUNSELOR CALLS YOU UP AND TELLS YOU ALL ABOUT YOUR FIANCE'S CRIMINAL RECORD..... AND THE INSTITUTION HE WAS AT SAID THAT I HAD TO BE SEEING HIM ON A REGULAR AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH. NOT A PROBLEM AT ALL IF HE WAS ON THIS SIDE OF THE MOUNTAINS. I HAVE A REALLY BAD BACK AND THAT IS WHEN WE GOT THE HARDSHIP FOR HIM TO COME BACK OVER HERE. WELL THINGS HAPPENED AND WE DIDNT GET MARRIED. BUT NOW WE ARE GOING TO DO IT. BUT THE CHAPLAIN WHERE HE IS NOW SAID THAT IT HAS CHANGED A LOT SO I WILL FIND OUT SATURDAY ABOUT WHAT WE NEED TO DO. HOPEFULLY IT IS NOT TOO BAD...
