Question How long does it take your mail to get delivered?

Can any one explain to me why it takes almost 2 months for any mail I send to reach the addressee in Salinas Valley St Prison? This has been an ongoing issue for myself and his Mother from the onset of incarceration. It doesn't seem to matter what type of mail it is, or if it is hand written or computer generated. It feels as if the employees in the mail rooms are having a gay old time just watching the letters pile up to see how high they can go. There have been many items that were sent that have never even arrived. This is also something that greatly distresses me, where does it go, if it never s delivered? Isn't the mail system considered federal? Wouldn't it be a case of tampering with this system to intentionally divert or delay the actual delivery of each piece of mail? I honestly don't have any clue. But if you do and you feel like sharing please do so. I'm at the end of my rope here and the recipient is having a harder and harder time believing that I've even sent mail.

WOW! Thats a LONG time!!.. I'm in Australia, and it normally takes between 5 to 7 working days for them to get my letters, and for me to get theirs... And I thought THAT was long, but 2 months in the same country is just WAYYY too long!
I'd definatly investigate why, that is just too long

Default Mail is a lifeline

I have to agree with the others that have posted in here for you. That is an outrageous amount of time what ever the reason may be!

There are just to many circumstances that might be the cause of this. Sometimes if an inmate is moved, it will cause a long delay. Lock downs are another, misdirected mail, if anything "questionable" by their standards was ever sent in or out. Do they suspect that he may be gang related? I know that they scour over that. Sometimes they are just being complete jerks about it.

One thing that I have suggested to someone else is to contact the unit, and get the number for their mail room. Talk to them and question them. See what their excuse is. If for no other reason than to make them aware that someone outside cares and is aware of what they are doing.

I know how frustrating this must be for you and him. But please do not lose hope. Keep sending those letters and be ready for his when they do come....

Also check the federal laws for the state he is in. Each state is different and they may have a set time limit for mail delivery.
Follow the path that your heart leads you, the journey there is just as fun as the destination.....

Wow that is a long time that sucks!!! I think the best thing to do is call the mail room. I know that it takes them awhile to go through the mail, but 2 months???!!! Hopefully you get some answers and the problem gets fixed.

Mail is soooooo important while on the inside.Try to get to the bottom of that by calling the prison directly. 3 to 5 days is tops and thats even if there are issues with the mail

Blessed to be free again

that is too much...I would be flashing...call the mail room and see if you can get a straigh answer...

it takes him about four days to get mine and about two or three days to get his....

if I get mail from his brother it's like four days after I send it I have a responce letter....

I would look into it......

My mail has been taking up to 3 weeks to get to my lady at Gatesville till I rang the unit it seems some of the staff there seem to think it`s amusing to hold on to it or cant be bothered to deliver it, The best advice I can give is ring the unit and enquire I have found them helpful and always polite.

My fiance is in MD. Recently we had some correspondence with a lawyer for some things we were trying to do. I let the lawyer know that sometimes it takes 2 weeks for me to receive a response fora letter I may have written because of the delay. I only made this statement so that he would not expect to hear back from 'L' right away. The lawyer told me that legal mail is the only mail they HAVE to deliver as soon as it arrives. I took that to mean they deliver the rest at their convenience.
