Default Warren Correctional Institute???

My friend was transferred from Odom to Warren. Does anyone have a loved one or friends in Warren? If so, enlighten me please.
Thanks and Happy Holidays!

jeannie ~ i had a friend in warren. it's not too bad. a lot of the men there are on work programs, assisting with the building of new campus facilities. it's a fairly new correctional institution, so it's in good shape. the visiting situation stinks...you have to visit in the cafeteria, there aren't any machines, and the guards are strict. ac

Thanks for that info, it makes me feel a little better. I was wondering if you can tell me how it works when someone is released? My friends projected release date is jan. 30, 2004. Only 64 days left! How does that work when someone gets out? Does someone get to go and pick them up from the prison they are in? And if so, how do you know what time? I'm really new to this prison thing, so I have lots of questions. If someone is in "seg" in one prison and they are transferred to another, are they still in"seg" there? What about phone calls from Warren? Is that allowed?
Thanks for any info you can give me.

jeannie ~ you have to be put on the phone list. i would imagine that phone lists transfer from one facility to the next. i'm not sure what the procedure is when someone is released. i'm assuming you could go pick him up? ac

yes, if an inmate is in "seg" in one prison and they are transferred they will be in "seg" at the next camp.

Default flyfree...

I was reading your profile, you said your loved one is in PCI, would that happen to be Pasquotank? Just curious. I live 8 miles from that prison and have a friend who is a guard there.
Happy Holidays,
Jeannie

Hey, thought I could try to help out on a couple of questions asked earlier; when an inmate is close to getting out, usually the case manager makes some arrangements as to where he will be living, basically to know if they need to transfer him to a closer camp. If I lived in Charlotte, but was currently at Pasquotank, in Elizabeth City, they might consider transferring me closer to home. This is not always the case; sometimes they will put you on a bus and send you to your city of residence. When I got out, I was able to call my people ahead of time and tell them where and when I was leaving. They picked me up right at the prison, outside the gate. The inmate should have all that info long before he gets out, usually within 30 days or so.
You also mentioned transfers from one camp to another in seg; generally speaking, if you are in segregation in one camp, and are shipped to another, you go to seg there. However, that almost begs the question of why a person is being shipped from one seg to another. When I was in seg at Pasquotank and Guilford, there was never a question of moving me. If you are put in seg, let's say at Tyrrell, then by the laws of the Constitution you are still intitled to due process, in other words, a hearing on whether you are guilty or not. Just because you are in seg does not always mean you did something wrong, or was even guilty. You have a hearing, usually on the camp, kinda like having court. For that to happen, the people who charged you, and the evidence, must be available, so to ship someone before a hearing does not make sense. However, that happened to me at Sanford ( I know it sound like I caused a lot of trouble, but trust me, anyone could end up in such positions), I was shipped away straight to a camp in Greensboro and put in seg before I was even told of my charges. By policy and rule the offer must tell you what your charges are, and they did not. Still, I was put in seg at another camp.
The only reason I can imagine them shipping from seg to seg is only overcrowding. Different camps have certain number of rooms for seg. If Tyrrell has 15 seg cells, and they are all full, and a fight breaks out on camp, those inmates have to be put somewhere. The prison would either ship off inmates that were already in seg to another camp, or ship the newest inmates off. In most cases, they'd have to ship off older segs because no case is made on the newer ones. So, if a person is in seg at one camp and sent to another, he could be going to seg at the next camp, but that depends on a few things. I hope that helps...
