My son is still in processing. Do I have to wait till he's assigned somewhere before I can put money on his books or can I do it now? What's the fastest way to get the money to him?
Here is a link for more information on how to assign money to books for an inmate in the harris county jail: It woulnd't let me post the URL - go to google and search harris county inmate information and click on the second option.
You can always call the jail at 713-755-5300. It might take a long time for someone to answer, but when they do, they will be able to answer your questions better, especially if he was transferred somewhere else which is highly possibly with harris at this time.
There are three ways to pay the money. All you need is their name, SPN and you can actually go to any ACE Cashing and do it through there, you can go to Fiesta, or online at Western Union. OR at the actual courthouse, they have a kiosk. Going downtown is the cheapest option.
If the payment can't be accepted, more than likely, you son has been transferred to another facility and you will have to research the options for that facility. If you would like more help, please send me a PM with your phone number and I can call and talk to you about what little bit I do know. I was in your situation and terribly confused, so anything to do to help, I would be glad to do it. Incidentially, I am still in your situation concerning Epps, - West Carroll which my loved one was transferred to from harris county.
i read in your post that your loved one was transferred to epps. Have you spoke with him about it? can you give me your insight on visitation? it looks like my sweetie is headed that way. Any info you have would be great!! He seems to be looking forward to it. Says its better than county anyday!!
I can't help you with info. on visits but I was in County & saw a lot of people go to Epps & then got to speak with a few of them when they came back. Mind you, they were all females.
Most all of them liked it a lot better than the County. They did complain about HUGE bugs but overall the trade off of being able to go OUTSIDE & smoke & better food etc. seemed to be worth it.
I know they had a LOT more options at the commissary there. I do know the phone system was different & if I'm remembering correctly the $$ from Harris county either does not go over there...or it takes like 30 days so if they won't be there long you'd best get $$ on their books asap.
I wonder how your honey knows he's going? For the females it was totally random & we all HOPED to go but only a few got pulled each week.
I'll hope he goes...county SUCKS!
Hanging - I don't think there's a set schedule to transferring anyone from Harris. As far as Epps - the only thing I know about it is that it's a private facility that houses many Harris County inmates in Louisianna.
Wish I could've been of more help.

Harris County Sheriff Department does not make it easy to find this information. So I have included information from the page.
How do I send money to an inmate? Money can be sent in one of three ways:
1. Lobby kiosks. Deposits are accepted at the two main jails at 1200 Baker Street and 701 North San Jacinto Street. Each jail lobby has two kiosks that accept payments in cash or by credit card. The machines accept $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 bills. You will have to know the inmate’s correct SPN number and the machine will lead you through the steps to place the deposit on the correct account. This option is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
2. Western Union® Quick Collect®. A Western Union® Quick Collect® may be sent from any authorized Western Union® agent. Use the “blue form” and the city code “ITF-TEXAS”. Include the inmate’s SPN number and the name under which they are booked into jail in the account information blocks on the “blue form”.
3. Government Payment Service. Government Payment Service is a private entity that accepts payments by way of Credit/Debit cards only by phone. In order to utilize this service you must call 1-888-277-2535. This service is available 24 hours a day. You will need the following information:
The Harris County S.O. Pay Location Code = 5500
The inmate’s last name
The inmate’s SPN
The facility code = HSO
