I was wondering in anyone knew anything about Powder River? My honey has been there a few months now and is about 4-5 weeks into his program. I have not heard from him or received any letters in weeks, this is really strange due to him always calling me and our 4 year old daughter. I called and was told he was on "bunk restriction" and would be able to call when he was off in this week . I was worried he got in trouble and maybe would be kicked out. I was not told anything but that he is okay, not kicked out, and he could call when he was off bunk restriction. I know I am lucky to find out the info I did, but why am I still freaking out? He was told his release would be in Jan if he completed this program. I am in San Diego, Ca 1100 miles from him and stressed out. He wants us to be in Oregon to be settled to be back together when he is done with transitional , I hate not being able to talk with him. I am so lucky that he is there and close to freedom , so I know I have little to complain about. But it is so hard without him. My child is doing time along with us...
Well it sounds like everything will be fine since they told you he was not kicked out. January is only around the corner...you better get yourself here and quick!!!! Chin up, you will get a call soon and everything will be alright for you and the little one. Daddy is almost home!
My son is at Powder River and is in the last phase of the program, getting out October 15th. It is a very intense program with my rules; bunk restriction could be as simple as not making your bed or not participating in group activites or forgetting to bring your homework to group. It usually takes a good month or two to learn all the rules and remember everything. I would find out who his counselor is and give him a call. The program is all about "being accountable" for your actions. Let me know if you would like more information.
And if he writes and complains about his "bunk restriction," be supportive by encouraging him to "stick to the program" - no excuses - cause he's got a family counting on him to be successful so you can be together again as soon as possible!! It is an intense program and the inmates in it have to work hard - but that's not nearly as hard as making those lifestyle changes once they return to the community. So he might as well "get with the program" now! Too bad you had to worry -hopefully it won't happen again. Z.
