michael's from there and he was in the brown co jail for about 6 months awaiting and during trial.
visits are behind glass, the guards are obnoxious holier-than-thous (as is most of brownwood itself), food reeks, drugs were readily available inside, but on the bright side he could buy phone cards and we could talk for up to 30 minutes at a time every day.
sorry. i really hate brown county. it's a nice little piece of hell on earth and provided me with the most miserable year and lowest point of my life.
ps...also tell your man to avoid jury trial if at all possible...michael turned down a 6 year plea thinking since it was his first offense and he had mitigating cirucmstances up the ass that he could do better in front of a jury if they heard the whole story, but they gave him 13 years. there is NO JUSTICE in that town.

If he has any serious problems at that jail, I hope that you check out the online complaint form for the Texas Commission on Jail Standards. Look at the top right side of their website.
Family & friends can use that to report any abuse or neglect or bad conditions. You will get a response (even though it may be that they didn't find anything wrong!)
It's good to copy your complaint & keep a copy for yourself and don't forget to hit the submit button at the bottom of their form.
Risea19above, my son has been in Brown County since July on a drug charge revocation. He was sentenced to 12 months State Jail on Oct 11th and is still there awaiting transfer. He received trustee status shortly after arriving.
