Default Harris County Jail Questions - Texas

My son just got sentenced to 6 days with 2 days credit. Someone told me that Harris County gives 2 days credit for every one day served. Does anyone know if this is correct? Also, is there a certain time that inmates get released? He was just put in the jail at about 1pm today (3/26/08) so does anyone know what day he might get out? When can I visit him? He's just a scared kid (18) that got caught smoking marajuana. I can't believe that this happened to him!

Smile Hi tennis & welcome to PTO !

I know that you're anxious for an answer so I will do the best I can.

This is what I remember from when my son had been in Harris County for a misdemeanor charge. Normally I do believe it is a two for one time. However, when the judge sentenced him to 30 days he had to serve the full thirty days. So, as sorry as I am to say this - he might have to serve the full six days.

Your son will be okay hon. I know that Harris County is one of the worse heard about county jails in Texas but he really will be okay. Just encourage him to stay strong, to himself without being "unfriendly" towards others in his situation. Unfortunately my son has served time there more than once. Yes, he did get into a fight having to stand up for himself. But it's not as though every person in there is looking for trouble. They are also going thru issues and want to come home. There's a bruise on every apple so to speak and you sometimes have to take a stand. But in our experience, it's seldom.

Visitation is Monday thru Friday 5:00 pm to 8:40 pm - Saturday and Sunday 8:00 - 10:40 and afternoon visits 5:00 to 8:40. If you need more info about visitation let me know.

If there's anything at all I can do to help or offer support please don't hesitate to ask. But for right now just know that although this is horrible for you - he will be okay and hopefully never be in this situation again.

Big Hugs

Janice

just as a hint, visit in the evenings. I used to go wait in line at 5...and I would be there for quite a while. (keep in mind I was driving an hour there, waiting in line for an hour, an hour back home, etc) But, if I got there around 7, I just walked in. No line, no hassle really at all. Just a pointer!

I had a pretty good experience through Harris County.
